... Read moreIt's incredible how much of our lives are run by patterns we're not even aware of – what I've come to understand as 'unconscious habits.' For so long, I felt like I was constantly performing, trying to please everyone around me, always striving to "fit in." It was like I had a closet full of masks, and I'd pick a different one for every situation, hoping to earn approval. This wasn't a conscious choice; it just became my default, an unconscious habit I developed from a young age, like many of us do. I remember feeling so disconnected, even when surrounded by people. There was this persistent sense of being unfulfilled, a quiet exhaustion that no amount of rest seemed to fix. That's when I started realizing these masks, these ingrained ways of being, were actually hiding my true self. The OCR mentioned how we learn to hide our true feelings to maintain connections, and that really resonated with me. It’s a survival mechanism, but over time, it costs us our authenticity. Breaking free from these unconscious habits isn't an overnight fix; it's a gentle unfolding. My journey started with simply pausing, just like the article suggests. Taking a moment to breathe and ask myself, 'What do I truly feel right now?' or 'Am I doing this because I genuinely want to, or because I think I 'should'?' Sometimes, the answers were uncomfortable, revealing how deeply embedded these patterns were. I found that observing my reactions without judgment was key. When I felt that familiar urge to people-please or suppress my own needs, I'd try to acknowledge it. For example, if a friend asked for a favor I truly didn't have time for, instead of automatically saying 'yes', I'd take a breath. Sometimes, I'd still say 'yes', but with a new awareness. Other times, I'd bravely say 'no', and though it felt scary at first, it was incredibly liberating. Each small act of choosing my authentic self over the unconscious habit of performing chipped away at the old patterns. It's not about being perfect; it's about being present. Recognizing these unconscious habits is the first step to reclaiming your power and reconnecting with that steady river beneath the surface – your true self. The article beautifully states that your true self is never lost, and I've found that to be profoundly true. It's not about fixing something broken, but remembering the incredible, authentic person you've always been, just waiting to be embodied. This journey inward, challenging those old habits, has been the most rewarding path to feeling truly connected and fulfilled.
