⚠️TRIGGER WARNING ANIMAL CRUELTY.
This is the sad reality of the horses at Cat Cat Village, Sapa Vietnam. Honestly this sight ruined my entire experience of the traditional village. I get that these people make a living from this attraction, but I’m sure something can be done to improve the way the horses are treated. They are clearly overworked and look like they are sedated. HORSES ARE MEANT TO ROAM FREELY GRAZING GRASS. NOT STANDING STILL ON ROCKS AND DEPRIVED OF REST. The tourists who support this clearly have no compassion. Let’s do better
.
During my visit to Cat Cat Village, I was struck by how the horses, meant to roam freely and graze, were instead standing still on rocky terrain looking exhausted and possibly sedated. It made me reflect on the ethics of supporting such attractions and the responsibility tourists have when visiting. These horses are vital to the local economy but their welfare should never be overlooked. Simple improvements, such as providing enough rest time, access to proper grazing areas, and humane handling, could drastically improve their lives without compromising the village’s livelihood. I also noticed many tourists seemed unaware or indifferent to the horses' condition. Raising awareness through personal stories and responsible social sharing can educate travelers to choose animal-friendly experiences. From my perspective, encouraging the village to consider animal welfare standards or alternative tourism approaches could lead to more sustainable and ethical tourism. Supporting NGOs or campaigns focused on animal welfare in Vietnam may also help bring positive change. Ultimately, we all can contribute to making tourism more compassionate by staying informed, advocating for better treatment, and choosing responsible travel options.
