🍼August is National Breastfeeding Month.

While the world often talks about feeding the baby, not enough is said about the physical, emotional, and mental weight that rests on the person doing the feeding-or the partner quietly trying to help without knowing how.

That's why we've created these free checklists— to make space for both the breastfeeding parent and the partner to check in, reset, and feel seen.

Whether it's day one or month five, baby 1 or 3, you deserve support. Not just encouragement to "keep going," but real validation, rest, and care.

Why this matters:

📊 In 1 in 5 new mothers experiences mental health challenges after birth (CDC).

📊 Breastfeeding difficulties are linked to higher rates of postpartum depression when support is lacking.

📊 1 Up to 10-14% of partners also experience postpartum depression-most go undiagnosed.

❗️And yet... less than half of new parents are routinely screened for mental health concerns.

🤎 You are not alone. You are not failing. You are doing something extraordinary-whether you breastfeed for a week, a year, or not at all.

📥 Download the checklists (link in bio or comment below), save them for yourself, or send them to someone who might need a moment to check in.

... Read moreNational Breastfeeding Month in August serves as a crucial reminder of the physical, emotional, and mental challenges that breastfeeding parents and their partners experience. Many people focus solely on the baby’s nutrition, but the mental health of the breastfeeding parent is equally important. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one in five new mothers experiences mental health challenges after birth, and insufficient breastfeeding support is linked to increased postpartum depression. Partners are also affected, with 10-14% experiencing postpartum depression, yet many remain undiagnosed. To better support both breastfeeding parents and their partners, free checklists have been created that encourage reflection, emotional check-ins, and self-care. These tools include affirmations such as "I am more than just a source of milk" and "Rest is healing. I do not need to earn it," helping parents nurture themselves with the same patience and care as they give their babies. Partners are encouraged to self-assess their needs, ask for help, and provide compassionate support without pressure to "fix" challenges. In addition to emotional checklists, understanding breastfeeding basics—such as latching, cluster feeding, and letdown reflexes—can empower parents and reduce anxiety. Partners can contribute by handling other caregiving tasks like diaper changes and household chores, offering nonsexual physical touch (like gentle back rubs or holding hands), and giving the breastfeeding parent solo time to rest and recharge. Recognition and validation are also vital: reminding breastfeeding parents and partners that their efforts are extraordinary, regardless of feeding duration or method, reduces feelings of guilt or failure. Setting boundaries with visitors, focusing on presence rather than perfection, and embracing the healing process contribute to better mental health outcomes. By routinely checking in on mental health and providing resources for both parents and partners, the community can foster an environment that honors the complexities of breastfeeding. These comprehensive resources and affirmations aim to destigmatize postpartum mental health issues, encourage open communication, and build resilience in families. For those seeking support, downloading checklists or sharing them with others can be a powerful step toward healing and connection during this significant month.
