☀️ Vendor Review: The Sun

Big brained to have a wedding based on an astronomical object whose visibility is entirely outside our control.

But hey, when this vendor showed up, she signed, sealed and delivered.

… when she showed up.

+++

Pros and cons of engaging the sun as your vendor:

❌ Cons: communication is entirely one-sided. Non-existent customer support. No service level agreements.

Temperamental, and may be subject to unpredictable changes. Numerous forecasts suggested she might not even attend. May cause heightened levels of anxiety. Not even sure if she’s even willing to sign a binding contract. Wouldn’t recommend trying to negotiate with her.

Rather… fiery at times and we’d recommend precautionary measures where possible e.g. sunglasses, sunscreen.

✅ Pros: when she’s in a good mood, she practically… shines. May cause photographers to request “just 1 more shot.” Excellent supporting cast in elevating your dramatic entrances, morning photos, and sunset portraits.

Also, she comes FOC. Rendered services across 2 jurisdictions (3, if you include our proposal photo on the 2nd slide) without imposing cross-border surcharges or travel fees.

That’s a big plus point in our books.

+++

Anyway, rain forecasts and rain preceded our event.

So maybe the sun read the brief and went “oh you want Here Comes the Sun? Not Here Is the Sun?

Very well.”

🌧️ 🌞

+++

Would we engage this vendor again?

That’s a trick question.

You don’t choose this vendor.

This vendor chooses you.

+++

💰 Price: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (FOC. How can you beat that?)

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (1 star deducted for unreliability)

... Read moreHaving experienced weddings heavily influenced by natural sunlight, I can definitely relate to the unpredictability and charm detailed in this review. The Sun, much like a spontaneous vendor, arrives on its own schedule and with mood swings that can turn a photo shoot from dull to dazzling—or vice versa. On days when the weather is cooperative, the golden hours around sunrise and sunset create breathtaking lighting that elevates the entire event's atmosphere and photographs. However, the flip side is the anxiety caused by uncertain weather forecasts and the possibility of cloud cover obstructing the Sun’s presence. As a guest or photographer, I always recommend bringing along accessories like sunglasses and applying sunscreen—not only for comfort but also as a practical precaution against the Sun’s fiery temperament. Interestingly, the Sun’s 'services' are completely free of charge and naturally inclusive across multiple locations, eliminating the hassle of travel fees or bookings. It’s a unique partnership that requires flexibility and appreciation for nature’s timing. Ultimately, accepting that you don’t control this vendor but instead embrace its choices can transform your wedding experience into something truly memorable.

How to choose the right wedding vendor
Choosing your wedding vendors isn’t just about portfolios or prices. It’s really about how you feel around them and how they support you on a day that can feel like a lot, very quickly. Someone who would go up on stage and fix your hair, or pass you a piece of tissue when the emotions run high.
