Bring it to a boil briefly, then lower heat.
Cover and let the sauce simmer for 45 minutes (I like to check on the sauce occasionally to give it a stir or add a tiny bit of my cooking pasta water if needed).
Add in 2-3 tbsp canned Tomatoes if needed , like I did,
You should end up with a gorgeous sauce that is the perfect thickness. Add a bit of fresh basil or parsley if you have some left.
Add pasta & serve
If you’re after the best tasting pasta, add your just cooked pasta to the sauce and cook for another 5 minutes or so to allow the pasta to absorb the flavors and goodness of the sauce!

When making pasta sauce, one tip I've found helpful is to use fresh, ripe tomatoes if possible, as they bring a natural sweetness and richness that canned tomatoes sometimes lack. However, canned tomato puree or crushed tomatoes work perfectly well and make the process convenient. Adding a pinch of sugar can help balance the acidity of the tomatoes, enhancing the overall flavor without making the sauce sweet. I also like to let the sauce simmer gently for at least 45 minutes, stirring occasionally. This slow simmer allows the flavors to meld and results in a thicker, more concentrated sauce. If you want to deepen the flavor, consider sautéing a clove of minced garlic with the onions, or adding a splash of red wine during cooking. Some fresh herbs like basil or parsley added just before serving add a vibrant taste and beautiful color. For those curious about pasta sauce varieties, this tomato-based red sauce is a classic but you might also explore sauces like Alfredo (cream-based), pesto (basil and nuts), or arrabbiata (spicy tomato). Each offers a delicious twist depending on your craving. Finally, cooking your pasta directly in the sauce for a few minutes after boiling helps the pasta absorb the sauce’s flavors better. This simple technique elevates the dish to a whole new level. Enjoy making and customizing your pasta sauce to suit your taste!
