Extreme Cold

1/24 Edited to

... Read moreExperiencing extreme cold weather can be especially challenging for those living and working on farms, like in Anola. From my own experience, preparation is key to minimizing damage and maintaining safety during severe cold spells. First, protecting livestock is crucial. Ensuring animals have proper shelter from harsh winds and access to unfrozen water helps prevent health issues related to freezing temperatures. Adding extra bedding and checking them frequently can make a big difference. Next, crops require specific attention. Covering sensitive plants or using windbreaks can reduce frost damage dramatically. If you use irrigation, scheduling watering when temperatures are above freezing helps prevent ice damage. Personal safety is equally important. Dressing in layers, staying dry, and limiting time outdoors when the cold is extreme can prevent frostbite or hypothermia. Having emergency supplies like blankets, food, and a heat source ready is also essential. Severe weather warnings, like those shared on social media platforms and local alerts, are valuable resources to plan ahead. Taking these warnings seriously and implementing precautions early can reduce stress and risk. As someone who’s dealt with cold farm conditions, I recommend keeping emergency kits, monitoring weather closely, and staying connected with local resources. These practical steps not only protect your farm assets but also ensure your wellbeing during extreme cold events.

Coldest Ice Bath I’ve Ever Taken…
It literally took me 20 minutes to chop through this beast! Might be time to rethink that deicer machine lolol. This is my coldest ice bath, to date. Anything below 30°F can be dangerous to cold bathers. I was in around 4 minutes. It’s honestly amazing that a 1-2 degree difference can be felt.
