I made the Olympic Sherpa Zip from #heatedrivalry so I can look like @Hudson Williams

1/3 Edited to

... Read moreMaking a custom Sherpa zip hoodie like the one featured in #heatedrivalry is a rewarding project, especially if you want to capture that authentic Canadian spirit. I found that the most challenging part was working with the applique details, such as the Canada patches and the intricate maple leaf shapes. Since fabric stores often have limited selections, creating your own patches using fusible interfacing and felt is a great alternative. It requires patience to carefully trace and cut out each letter and symbol, but the end result is well worth the effort. When it came to assembling the hoodie, I used a teeny tiny zigzag stitch around each felt edge to secure the appliques, which helped prevent fraying and added a subtle decorative finish. Gluing the pieces in place before stitching made the process much easier, especially with the slippery nature of Sherpa fabric. Adding practical elements like multiple zippers for pockets and a seamless collar really elevated the jacket’s functionality and look. One tip I’d share is to plan your sewing steps carefully to avoid overwhelming yourself. Take your time cutting and positioning patches, and test stitch on a scrap piece of Sherpa to find the right tension and stitch length. Wearing this hoodie offers not only a stylish nod to Canadian pride but also a comforting and safe space feeling, something that fans of the show and Canadian culture will surely appreciate. Overall, this project enhanced my appreciation for costume design and how detailed applique work can transform simple fabrics into iconic apparel. If you’re a fan of DIY fashion or inspired by #heatedrivalry, I highly recommend trying this project and customizing it to your style.
