... Read moreOkay, so you saw my super simple DIY coffee filter ghost garland and maybe you're thinking, 'How exactly do I make those adorable floating ghosts?' Well, let me tell you, it's even easier than it looks, and it's become one of my favorite Halloween decor hacks! I just love how much charm these little guys add without any fuss. Let's dive into the details so you can create your own spooky, yet sweet, ghost garland. First, gather your supplies: you'll need some small foam balls (I used 1-inch ones, but you can experiment with sizes!), white coffee filters (the standard basket kind works perfectly), a mini hot glue gun, a black Sharpie, some clear stretchy fishing line, and a large sewing needle. Here’s a quick step-by-step: Prep Your Ghosts: Take one foam ball and center it on a single coffee filter. Gather the filter around the foam ball, creating a little ghost head. Secure the Head: Use your hot glue gun to put a tiny dab of glue right under the foam ball, securing the gathered filter in place. This gives your ghost its distinct head shape. Give Them Personality: Grab your black Sharpie and draw simple eyes and a mouth on each ghost's 'face'. Don't overthink it – a couple of dots and an oval make for a classic spooky-cute look! String 'Em Up: Thread your large sewing needle with the fishing line. Carefully push the needle through the TOP of the foam ball of your first ghost and pull it through the bottom. Leave a generous length of line for hanging. Create Your Garland: Decide on the spacing you want between your ghosts. I like mine about 6-8 inches apart. Once you’ve measured, thread your next ghost onto the line, again going through the foam ball. You can tie a small knot above and below each ghost to keep them from sliding, or a tiny dot of hot glue. Repeat until your garland is the desired length. Pro Tips for Your Ghostly Creations: Varying Sizes: Don't be afraid to use different sized foam balls and coffee filters to create a varied look for your ghost garland. A mix of big and small ghosts can be really charming! Add a Glow: For an extra spooky touch, try painting the foam balls with glow-in-the-dark paint before adding the coffee filters. Imagine them softly glowing in the evening! Outdoor Use: If you want to hang your ghost garland outside, consider using outdoor-grade hot glue and perhaps a weather-resistant string, though coffee filters might not hold up perfectly in heavy rain. For a temporary outdoor display, they’re fine! Kid-Friendly Fun: This is an amazing craft to do with kids! The hot glue gun part should always be supervised by an adult, but drawing faces and threading are perfect for little hands. Beyond Garlands: Instead of a long ghost garland, you can also make individual hanging ghosts to dangle from doorways, light fixtures, or even a Halloween-themed mobile. Just attach a loop of fishing line to the top of each individual ghost. This coffee filter ghost garland truly transforms a space with minimal effort and cost. It’s that perfect blend of nostalgic autumn vibes and playful Halloween spirit. So grab those coffee filters and get crafting – you'll be so happy with your adorable, floating ghost friends!
