RAISING YOUR STANDARDS WILL FEEL LIKE GRIEF BEFORE IT FEELS LIKE PEACE
1. The guilt does not always mean you did something wrong.
Sometimes it simply means you are doing something your old self was never comfortable doing.
2. Stop rehearsing your explanation.
A boundary does not need a speech to become valid.
3. Let people be disappointed.
Their disappointment is not proof that your standard is wrong.
4. Remember the exact moment that made you change.
When guilt makes you question yourself, remember what you had to tolerate to get here.
5. Protecting yourself is not punishment.
You are not becoming cold. You are becoming clear.
6. Give the discomfort time.
The more you stop abandoning yourself, the quieter the guilt becomes.
7. Watch who adjusts and who disappears.
Some people will respect the new you. Others only liked the version of you with no boundaries.
Small advice: When guilt shows up, ask, “Who benefited when I had no boundary?”
Affirmation: I can choose myself without feeling guilty for it.
