Your shadow is just as important as your light. And as much as you may try to suppress it, it’ll always be there.
Your light is what draws people to you. And often times, your shadow is what will scare them away.
Growth and maturity is when you learn to communicate clearly about your thoughts, feelings and emotions; Even if they are describing the not-so-beautiful side of you.
Only the real ones in your life will stay, no matter what side may show. Because they know it takes both light and dark to make someone truly authentic.
The ones that only want to see your light are selfish. They will make you feel awful for just being yourself.
They also won’t show all sides of themselves.
This makes them ingenuine because they are hiding who they truly are to manipulate to thier benefit.
So many people are in connections that only bring them stress and unhappiness simply because someone was too afraid to show their true authentic selves from the start.
We all have some level of a shadow..
If you learn to communicate clearly, two people can come together to create the perfect yin and yang mixture of light and darkness.
... Read moreFrom my own experiences, I’ve found that clear and honest communication truly is the foundation of any strong relationship. Many times, we’re tempted to hide parts of ourselves—the shadows—because we fear rejection or judgment. However, the more we suppress these aspects, the more disconnected we feel. Opening up about not only your strengths but also your insecurities or less 'perfect' emotions can be intimidating, yet it invites greater understanding and acceptance.
In one of my closer friendships, for example, it was a moment of vulnerability—sharing feelings of doubt and frustration—that actually deepened our trust. It allowed both of us to see each other as whole individuals, composed of light and dark. This realness made the connection more resilient during tough times.
The key, as highlighted in the article, is clear and honest communication. It’s not just about expressing feelings but doing so in a way that is respectful and nonjudgmental. When both people feel safe to communicate their true selves, including their shadow sides, it creates a balanced yin and yang dynamic. This balance harmonizes the relationship, preventing misunderstandings and resentment.
Moreover, I’ve noticed that relationships where only the 'light' side is accepted often lead to frustration and emotional exhaustion. People feel pressured to perform or conceal parts of themselves, ultimately causing stress and dissatisfaction.
By embracing your whole self and encouraging open dialogue, you invite the same from others. This creates authentic bonds where both parties feel valued and supported. It is a reminder that true growth and maturity come from recognizing and integrating both your strengths and vulnerabilities—your light and shadow—into your connections with others.
