Discovering and embracing a masc identity can be a profound and sometimes challenging journey, especially within the queer community. In my own experience, the first few years were filled with questions and uncertainties as I tried to understand where I fit and how to express my true self authentically. Masc, short for masculine, is a term many use to describe their gender expression or identity, and it can have different meanings for different people. What I found helpful was connecting with others who shared similar experiences. Spaces tagged #wlw (women loving women), #masc, and #queer provided a sense of community and understanding. Sharing stories and struggles helped normalize the journey of self-discovery and made me appreciate the unique paths everyone takes. An important part of this process was learning to appreciate my identity without feeling pressured to conform to stereotypes or expectations. The phrase "AND I APPRECIATE" resonates with me because it reflects the acceptance and gratitude I developed for my own uniqueness despite the rough patches. For those starting their journey or struggling, I suggest being patient and kind with yourself. Exploring different expressions and labels can aid in finding what truly feels right. Remember, there’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to identity, and most importantly, your story and feelings are valid and worth celebrating. Over time, the roughness eases, replaced by a strong sense of self and community support.
