Starting homeschooling is a journey filled with unique lessons and personal growth for both the child and the parent. One of the first and most profound realizations is how vital it is for a child to feel safe, heard, and free to explore their interests. When this foundation is established, children become more engaged and enthusiastic about learning, which greatly enhances their experience. Additionally, homeschooling has taught me that stillness — sitting quietly and focusing on one task — isn't the sole indicator of learning. Instead, meaningful connection and engagement between parent and child, as well as with the learning material, are far more significant. This connection nurtures curiosity and motivation, which are key drivers of lifelong learning. Homeschooling also serves as a form of 'heart-school,' where emotional intelligence and individual growth take center stage alongside academics. It's not just about curriculum and lessons; it's about nurturing the whole child and refining the parent alongside them. The process encourages self-reflection and adaptability, helping me develop patience, empathy, and new teaching skills.
