Portion Control Portion Control Portion Control
Hi yall! For those who are new here, my name is Emma, I’m a college student trying to eat healthy on a wicked budget. Today I’m sharing a bit about how I eat “non-diet” foods and still come out ahead on my deficit.
11 AM- Breakfast Platter: When I’m snackish, I make platters. Here we have half an apple (50 cal), turkey sausage and ketchup (100 cal), Egg Frittata (100 cal), oatmeal (100 cal), and a blueberry muffin (150 cal). This puts this very filling meal at only 500 calories to kickstart my day.
2 PM- Oatmeal: I was majorly craving oatmeal today.
6 PM- Mac and Sausage: this is where my portion control speech comes in. I like how nutritionists say to just eat what you’re craving, and what I was craving was Kraft Mac and Cheese. I did want a little protein so I cut up turkey sausage to make it a meal. This is around 450 calories which is a very reasonably sized meal for a deficit.
10 PM- BBQ Chicken Salad: Everyone I’ve told about tossing cut up chicken nuggets in BBQ has gotten hooked. I finally got fresh lettuce so I made a whole salad this time.
These were filling meals and I ended the day full. We are looking at around 1300 calories and I ate what I was craving. I’m not a nutritionist but I can definitely attest to how easy it becomes to deficit when you allow yourself to eat what you want and make sure you’re portioning correctly.

I used to over buy my fruit and the same would happen. Now I’m plow through it. I fix it in containers and keep it by my chair for that hand to mouth habit.
