I've learned that a well-curated snack stash can save you from unhealthy vending machine raids and those frantic 'What can I eat?' moments. So, why bother with a work snack drawer? For me, it's about control and convenience. I can choose healthier options, save money by not constantly buying out, and ensure I always have something on hand when hunger strikes. It’s like having a mini personal pantry right at your desk! When I'm curating my perfect snack drawer at work, I focus on a few key categories to ensure variety and balance: Protein Powerhouses: These are crucial for sustained energy. I always keep a few cans of Wild Planet Wild Tuna & Pasta Salad or Patagonia Provisions Sardines + Beans on hand. They’re super quick, packed with protein, and surprisingly delicious. Just pop them open for a savory, satisfying boost. Wholesome & Crunchy: For that satisfying crunch, I love 365 Whole Foods Market Organic Golden Round Crackers. They're great on their own, or sometimes I'll pair them with a small container of cheese from the office fridge. While Kerrygold Pure Irish Butter isn't a snack on its own, it's amazing if you have access to a toaster for some whole-wheat toast or a bagel (especially when that massive email comes through about 'bagels in the kitchen'!). Sweet Treats (in moderation!): We all need a little pick-me-up. My absolute favorite is a square (or two!) of Chocolove Hazelnuts in Milk Chocolate. It’s rich, decadent, and just enough to satisfy my sweet tooth without sending me into a sugar crash. Unique & Gut-Friendly: I'm lowkey addicted to Hex Ferments Kraut (especially the goop GLOW KRAUT). It's fantastic for gut health, but be warned – it needs to be refrigerated! Quick Mini-Meals: For days when I need more than a snack but don't want to leave my desk, a small container of Rao's Pasta & Fagioli Soup is a lifesaver. If you have microwave access, it’s a quick, hearty, and surprisingly gourmet option. My top tip for maintaining a great snack stash is to rotate items and keep an eye on expiry dates.
