9/21
Day 9 of 21.
I actually had fun.
Like genuinely enjoyed myself at the gym. Didn’t have to negotiate with myself or drag my feet. I just showed up and it felt good.
This is why I keep going. Days like today remind me what I’m doing this for.

Embarking on a 21-day fitness challenge can often come with mental hurdles, but finding moments of genuine enjoyment, like I experienced on Day 9, can transform the entire journey. For me, the gym used to be a place of negotiation and reluctance, but breaking past that mental barrier helped me show up consistently without dragging my feet. One thing I've learned is that commitment isn't about perfection—it's about showing up every day regardless of how you feel. When I realized that the act of simply arriving at the gym was a win, my perspective shifted. Moments of joy during workouts reinforce why I started and fuel the motivation to keep going. Speaking of commitment, I’ve also become aware of the small challenges that come with expat life here in Chiang Mai, like adjusting to local gym culture and costs. For instance, there was a humorous sign about mirror damage costs posted in the gym: “ทํากระจกแตก บานละ.7500.- MIRROR DAMAGE COSTS 7500. MUS FITNESS.” It reminded me how universal gym etiquette is, no matter where you are. Staying mindful of such details adds to the overall experience and helps maintain a respectful atmosphere. Combining a strong mindset with consistent effort and awareness of your environment is key to a successful fitness journey. If you’re on a similar challenge, focus on those days when you truly enjoy your workout—they’re the fuel to keep you committed through tougher times. Celebrate every small victory and remember why you started, no matter where you are in the world!
