As a food photographer, my favourite foods to shoot are NOT the ones people expect 🤔
1. Pancakes: height+texture+drizzles 🥞
2. Citrus: happy colours+translucency+highlights
3. Pasta: textures+movement+fun 🍝
4. Yogurt bowls: layers+toppings 🥣
5. Cookies: repetition+instant warmth 🍪

As a food photographer, I’ve realized that the key to captivating images isn't just in shooting popular or trendy foods, but in focusing on elements that truly bring out the story and emotion behind the dish. Pancakes, for example, aren’t just about the stack; I look for height and texture, and I love capturing the glossy drizzles of syrup that add shine and depth. Citrus fruits are another favorite because their bright, happy colors and translucency under natural light create striking highlights and shadows. This interplay of light makes the images vibrant and refreshing. Pasta dishes allow for playful creativity—the textures of the noodles combined with the motion of tossing sauce or steam rising offers dynamic shots full of life. Yogurt bowls provide an interesting challenge with their layers and toppings. I often focus on the contrast of creamy textures with crunchy granola or fresh fruit, adding a tactile dimension to the photo. Lastly, cookies hold a special nostalgic warmth. Their repetitive shapes and golden browns invite a cozy feeling that’s perfect for storytelling through images. Exploring these food types has helped me refine my style by combining technical elements like composition and lighting with emotional appeal. If you’re experimenting with food photography, I recommend concentrating on textures, color contrasts, and movement in your shots—these are sure ways to engage viewers and make ordinary foods look extraordinary.
