Homemade Sourdough
I recently started selling homemade sourdough, and here’s what I’ve learned so far as a beginner baker with a 6 month old starter🥖
1. Planning is everything
Sourdough takes up A LOT of time! I’ve slowly developed a schedule for the feeding, fermenting, and baking process over time which has tremendously helped me when life gets busy.🤗
2. A good loaf begins with a good starter
I only use one sourdough starter and it’s taught me how much consistency matters. Keep an eye on the rise! I’ve also found it helpful to place it in a warmer environment makes it easier to manage.
3. People LOVE options
Offering different flavors + flight boxes has made ordering more fun and personal for customers. (Who doesn’t love a variety?!)❤️
4. Patience really is an ingredient
Rushing proofing almost always shows in the crumb. Waiting is hard… but worth it.
5. Small wins feel HUGE
The first loaf. The first inclusions. The first time someone tells you it’s their favorite bread 🥹 it truly is a proud moment✨
I’m still learning every bake, but starting has been the most rewarding part. If you’re thinking about turning a hobby into something more… this is your sign ✨
