My Honest Review of Paco Hotel, Guangzhou 🇨🇳

Hi guys! I’m back with another honest hotel review from my recent China trip. If you’re planning a visit to Guangzhou and want something affordable without sacrificing comfort, here are my thoughts on Paco Hotel (Tiyu Xilu Metro Branch). Let’s dive in!

📍 Location: 8/10

The location was definitely a strong point. It’s about 3–5 minutes from Tiyu Xilu Metro Station, which made travelling around Guangzhou incredibly convenient—whether it’s Beijing Lu, APM Mall, or anywhere else you plan to explore.

It’s also near major malls like Parc Central and Grandview Mall, but not inside the super crowded zone. Because of that, getting Didi rides was smooth and straightforward. Drivers had no trouble finding the hotel and we didn’t face traffic jams when getting picked up or dropped off.

🛏️ The Room: 7/10

We booked the most basic room (the one without windows) since we knew we’d be outside most of the day. For the price we paid, it was simple but comfortable.

We managed to open one full 30kg luggage with space to move around. If you open a second one, it might start to feel tight—so just manage your expectations if you’re bringing multiple big suitcases.

The bed was surprisingly comfy. No back or shoulder pain at all. The room also came with four pillows with different firmness levels, which was a nice touch.

A few things to note:

• No fridge and no oven in the basic room

• TV is provided

• Wi-Fi available, but our eSIM + VPN worked well enough

• No-window rooms may have weaker mobile data signal

🚿 Toilet & Shower: 7/10

The bathroom is simple but nicely stocked with essentials. Aside from shampoo, body wash, and conditioner, they also provide:

✔️ toothbrush & toothpaste

✔️ shaver

✔️ body lotion

✔️ handwash

✔️ basic hairdryer

There’s a divider between the shower and the toilet, but water still splashes out a bit—so the floor gets slightly wet after bathing. Overall cleanliness was okay. Not ultra spotless, but decent for a budget hotel.

🧼 Room Service & Staff: 6/10

Housekeeping came whenever we requested, which we appreciated. Towels were refreshed, the sheets and bed were tidied, and the toilet area was always cleaned well. The rest of the room was generally tidy, though not super detailed—once in a while we still saw a bit of dust or hair on the floor or side tables. Nothing major, just something to note if you’re particular.

Staff interactions were generally fine. We spoke in Chinese so communication was smooth. For guests who don’t speak Chinese, the staff do try—many use translator apps to help. Some were warm and friendly, others were more reserved, but everyone did their job and we didn’t have any unpleasant experiences.

A few things we liked:

✔️ There’s a designated Taobao/parcel pickup area

✔️ A delivery robot brings your food orders straight to your room

Super convenient!

💰 The Price & Overall Verdict

We paid SGD 682.51 / USD 528++ / PHP 31,000++ total for our entire stay of 9 nights (via Agoda, no breakfast). For this location in Guangzhou, this is already considered affordable.

Would I stay here again?

Yes—if I’m staying in the same area, I wouldn’t mind booking this again. It’s comfortable enough for the price, and the convenience of the metro and malls nearby is great. But since we want to explore other neighbourhoods next time, we might try a different location just for variety.

This hotel is great for:

• Travelers on a budget

• People who just need a clean, comfy place to rest after shopping

• Those visiting Guangzhou for Canton Fair, supplier visits, or business

• Anyone who wants easy metro access + plenty of food options nearby

... Read moreIf you’re researching hotel parent brands in China and want the best booking experience, it’s good to look beyond just one hotel chain. From my experience and observations, here are a few brands known for their booking reliability and comfort. 1. Jinjiang Inn: Widely available throughout China, Jinjiang Inn offers straightforward online booking and a consistent budget-friendly stay. They score high on clean, comfortable rooms and easy payment methods. However, their style is more functional than boutique, so expect basic decor. 2. Hanting Hotels: Popular for business travelers, Hanting has a smooth booking process through popular Chinese travel apps. They also offer many locations, often near transport hubs. Their rooms balance comfort with practicality but may lack some upscale amenities. 3. 7 Days Inn: Known for competitive pricing and frequent promotions, 7 Days Inn provides functional rooms and a seamless online booking experience. If you’re a traveler valuing affordability and convenience, it’s worth considering. 4. Paco Hotel itself has multiple branches with varying standards, but the Tiyu Xilu Metro branch impressed me with its location and thoughtful room features. Booking was straightforward through Agoda and other platforms, which is convenient for international travelers. When booking solo or for extended stays, look for hotels with responsive customer service, clear room descriptions, and location advantages like metro access or nearby dining. Some brands excel in hospitality but vary widely depending on the property. Personally, if extended comfort and a sense of home are priorities, checking reviews of individual hotels within these brands is key since service quality and room comfort can vary. In Guangzhou, Paco Hotel Tiyu Xilu Metro branch offers a good balance for budget travelers who want to stay near shopping and transit hubs without breaking the bank. Lastly, when planning longer stays or business trips, consider if your chosen brand offers extras like parcel pickup services, food delivery options, or multilingual staff to make your stay smoother—features that Paco Hotel provided during my visit.
