January Reading Wrap Up

Not going to lie, I was in a reading slump for the first half of the month. I had DNF’ed 6 books before reading my first book of the year.

“Blue Sisters” was definitely an interesting and accurate take on the relationship with your sisters.

As for “The Outsiders”, I finally read it and watched the movie. I want to read more books that are read in middle/high school to see from an adults’ POV.

“The Seve Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” was a masterpiece. That’s all I’m going to say.

As for “Dust Storm”, I needed a palette cleanser.

Currently reading “The Diary of Anne Frank” and it’s parallel to what’s going on right now.

I’m hoping that February will be a good reading month and I can’t wait to see what I read. 💕

... Read moreStarting the year with a reading slump isn't uncommon, and I completely relate to the frustration of putting down six books before truly feeling engaged. It’s a reminder that not every read will captivate us immediately, and sometimes, it’s perfectly fine to set a book aside if it doesn’t resonate. I found that reading "Blue Sisters" provided an insightful exploration of sibling relationships, something many of us can connect with deeply; it reminded me how personal dynamics can make fiction resonate on another level. Similarly, finally completing "The Outsiders" and watching its movie adaptation gave me a fresh perspective on stories I first encountered in middle school—viewing them through an adult lens adds layers of complexity and nostalgia. As for "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo," it’s no surprise this book is hailed as a masterpiece. Its storytelling, character depth, and emotional arcs offer so much to unpack. It sparked my interest in exploring more Taylor Jenkins Reid novels—her writing style deeply engages with themes of love, identity, and resilience. Sometimes after heavy or intense books, I find a light "palette cleanser" essential, much like reading "Dust Storm." It’s important to balance our reading list to maintain enthusiasm and mental freshness. Currently diving into "The Diary of Anne Frank," I’m struck by how history’s parallels to today’s world echo strongly, giving a powerful lens of reflection on current events. It underscores how literature bridges past and present, helping us process ongoing challenges. For fellow readers dealing with a slump, I recommend mixing genres or revisiting childhood/classic reads from a new perspective. Joining communities like #readersoflemon8 or engaging with fellow book lovers can reignite passion and provide great recommendations. Overall, embracing the ebb and flow of reading motivation is part of the journey. Here’s to hoping February brings more captivating reads, personal growth, and literary discoveries!
