When we hear that God’s Word exposes the thoughts and intentions of the heart, we often assume it’s something negative. But exposure isn’t always about revealing weakness, I believe sometimes it reveals desire and ability.
When Jesus approached the invalid man who had been sitting by the waters for decades, He already knew what was in his heart. Jesus exposed his desire to be healed and the truth that he actually had the ability to get up — if he would simply obey His word.
That’s why Jesus approached him.
I wonder if Jesus wouldn’t have asked him, “Do you want to be made well?” if the man didn’t.
Sometimes God comes to us not to expose our inability, but to expose our ability in Him.
Is there something you believe you cannot do?
Bring it to the Lord in prayer.
Bring it to His Word.
Let His Word penetrate your spirit and expose whatever needs to be along with the desire He placed in you — the very thing He wants to fulfill in in and through you in this land of the living (Psalm 27:13).

Reflecting on the powerful truth that God’s Word is alive and active, I’ve personally experienced moments where I felt stuck, believing I couldn’t move forward with certain challenges in my life. Yet, through prayer and meditation on Scripture, I realized that what seemed like limitations were actually opportunities for God to reveal my true strength and desire to grow. One passage that always resonates deeply with me is Hebrews 4:12, describing the Word of God as sharper than any double-edged sword, capable of discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. This reminds me that the purpose of Scripture is not to condemn us but to illuminate our inner selves—including the talents and desires God has placed within us. For example, the story of Jesus asking the man by the pool, "Do you want to be made well?" illustrates a profound moment of invitation. Jesus knew the man’s heart and his latent ability to rise. This teaches us that God often approaches us not to highlight our failures but to invite us to activate the potential He’s already given us. When I encountered difficulties, I tried to bring those challenges to God in prayer, seeking His guidance to uncover not only my weaknesses but also my embedded abilities. I noticed that allowing God’s Word to penetrate my spirit opened new pathways of faith and action. It helped me realize that obedience and trust in God’s promises can move mountains within us and around us. I encourage anyone reading to consider if there is a situation where you feel powerless or stuck. Bring it before God through prayer and Scripture. Ask Him to reveal any underlying desires He has planted in your heart along with the abilities to fulfill them. Psalm 27:13 encourages us to hope and trust in the Lord’s plans for our lives, even when they are yet unseen. Embracing this mindset transformed my outlook from one of self-doubt to one of hopeful expectancy. It liberated me to take steps forward, knowing that God’s Word can expose not just shortcomings but also the gifts waiting to be awakened in us. Ultimately, God’s Word invites each of us to live fully, confident in the ability and desire He has placed within our hearts.
