I Ghosted a RN Job Interview - Here’s Why 🩺

I ghosted a job interview—and honestly, it was the wake-up call I didn’t know I needed.

I’m a 26-year-old night shift nurse in Philly, making $49/hr on a step down unit. A few months ago, I hit a wall: back-to-back 12s, short staffing, and just completely exhausted. One night at work I applied to another hospital for a couple different positions. I got the interview for one position… but I never showed up.

That morning, I was all ready sitting in my scrubs, staring at the Zoom link, and I just couldn’t log on. Not because I was nervous—but because I realized starting over somewhere new wasn’t the answer. I didn’t need a new job—I needed to advocate for myself in the one I had. Since then, I’ve set firmer boundaries and stopped burning myself out so easily.

Have you ever applied to escape burnout instead of fixing it? 💬

... Read moreIn the nursing profession, burnout is an all-too-common issue. Many healthcare workers face long hours and stress, leading to feelings of exhaustion and disengagement. It’s crucial for nurses, especially night shift nurses, to recognize the signs of burnout early. To combat this, establishing clear boundaries at work can lead to sustainable careers and job satisfaction. Additionally, some nurses may feel tempted to switch jobs as a solution to their problems, but it’s essential to assess whether the current role can be improved instead. This reflective process may involve communicating needs to supervisors or seeking support from colleagues. By fostering a supportive work environment and prioritizing self-care, nurses can enhance their quality of life. Moreover, sharing experiences with peers can help validate feelings and offer new perspectives on managing stress. It’s not uncommon for nurses to seek solace in professional forums or community discussions, where they can exchange strategies to promote mental well-being. Ultimately, recognizing that changing jobs isn’t always the answer can empower nurses to reclaim their passion for the profession they love.

Yes! I’ve been applying for other schools to teach because I feel like I am not working the position that I applied for but I don’t feel like starting over.. I also went to nursing school but I did not finish because the school I attended was more concerned about getting paid than actually teaching. I’m seriously thinking about going back but at a better school of course. I love teaching but I need more money..
