I def would’ve quit my current nursing job a long time ago if it weren’t for my coworkers. On night shift you don’t survive on your own - you survive together.
When you’re running around like a chicken, handling a patient who’s tanking, and running on like no sleep, it’s the people around you that hold you up. It’s someone saying, “I got your call light”, without being asked. It’s the look your coworker gives at 4am that says, “ I know this sucks, but we’re almost there” when you feel like crying that makes it all worth it.
Step-down nursing is heavy & difficult. The pace doesn’t slow down just because it’s dark outside. But night shift has this unspoken code - we don’t let each other fall apart!
