Halloween Movie Line Up

As the leaves start to turn and there’s a crisp chill in the air, my mind immediately jumps to one thing: Halloween movie season! There’s nothing quite like cozying up with a spooky (or not-so-spooky) film to get into the autumnal spirit. This year, I’ve been busy curating my perfect lineup, blending nostalgic childhood favorites with some wickedly fun adult flicks. For the little ghouls and goblins in our lives, you absolutely can't go wrong with the classics. My top pick for family fun has to be Garfield’s Halloween Adventure. That DVD cover with Garfield as a pirate instantly brings back so many memories! It's such a delightful, not-too-scary special that captures the joy of trick-or-treating. And speaking of beloved animated characters, if you're looking for another friendly ghost story that's perfect for all ages, the Spooktacular Adventures of Casper is always a fantastic choice. It’s got that charming, classic animation feel that’s hard to beat. Beyond these, we always make time for It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown – it's practically a holiday in itself! And for more animated monster fun, the Hotel Transylvania movies are a hit, as are the various Scooby-Doo! Halloween adventures, which always deliver a good mystery with just the right amount of spooky fun. Collecting these on Nickelodeon DVD or other classic animation collections is a great way to ensure you always have them on hand for a spontaneous movie marathon. Now, for us grown-ups who might enjoy a bit more bite with our Halloween viewing, I’ve got some fantastic recommendations. If you appreciate dark humor and supernatural twists, you absolutely have to watch Death Becomes Her. It’s a cult classic for a reason, with Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn delivering iconic performances as rival women obsessed with eternal youth, with hilarious and macabre results. It pairs wonderfully with other witchy and magical films like Practical Magic, starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, which brings a lovely blend of romance and enchantment to the spooky season. And for a more overtly comedic take on magic and mischief, The Witches of Eastwick is another brilliant choice. Of course, no adult Halloween lineup would be complete without the original Ghostbusters 1 & 2 – who ya gonna call for classic supernatural comedy? And for a truly unique watch, the double feature of Spaceballs and Little Shop of Horrors offers a fun, quirky, and surprisingly spooky experience. To make our Halloween movie nights extra special, I love to go all out with the atmosphere. Think cozy blankets, dimmed lights, and plenty of themed snacks – maybe some pumpkin-shaped cookies or "monster mash" popcorn. Sometimes we even try to match our snacks to the movie; for example, a veggie platter for Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit!
