Motivation Tips!!

Are you feeling burned out after the fall semester? Need some tips on how to become motivated? In this post I shared some tips on how i personally stay motivated!

Tip 1: Don’t overwork yourself! If you overload yourself with too many tasks, you’ll become burnt out and you won’t want to do anything. Try to leave some time for yourself to do things that you find fun. Do your hobbies!

Tip 2: When you do have time, try to immerse yourself in something related to your studies. Take some notes on something, catch up on work, study for an upcoming test/quiz.

Do something productive. Drink some water, do a workout, catch up with an old friend.

Tip 3: Do something new! Don’t just sit sround doing the same routine constantly. You’ll just end up boring yourself. Try adding something new into it. Like try a new recipe, watch a new show, play a new game! Try something new.

We all know 'college student motivation' can be a tricky beast, and sometimes those initial tips aren't quite enough to tackle deeper slumps. Here’s how I really push through! 1. Break Down Big Goals into Tiny Wins: I used to get so overwhelmed just looking at a whole semester's worth of assignments. My big goal for this spring semester, as the OCR mentioned, is staying on top of my work. But how do I actually do that without feeling like I'm drowning? I've learned to break down major projects or study sessions into smaller, super-manageable chunks. Instead of just thinking 'write that massive paper,' I'll aim for 'outline paper for 30 minutes' or 'research 2 sources for the intro.' Each small win builds momentum and makes the overall task less daunting. It’s like collecting little trophies for yourself! 2. Embrace the Power of the Pomodoro & Planned Breaks: My first tip was about not overworking, and this is how I truly put it into practice. For intense study sessions, I swear by the Pomodoro technique: 25 minutes of focused work, followed by a 5-minute break. But more importantly, I plan my fun. Remember how I talked about trying something new, like a new recipe or a new game? I actually schedule those activities into my week! It gives me something concrete and exciting to look forward to. For instance, I'm trying to learn some new recipes this month, and knowing I have that fun cooking session coming up after a tough study block makes me push through those last few pages. 3. Cultivate Your Study Sanctuary & Support System: My article touched on doing something productive like going for a walk or catching up with a friend, and I can't stress this enough. I've realized how crucial my environment and social connections are for motivation. Having a dedicated, clutter-free study space (even if it's just a small corner of my dorm room) makes a huge difference in my focus. And when I'm feeling low or stuck, a quick chat with someone I haven't connected with in a while, or a walk outside in fresh air, truly recharges me. It’s a great reminder that I’m not alone in this journey and that sometimes a little human connection is the best productivity hack. 4. Reflect & Recharge – My Personal Goals: Beyond academics, I’ve started setting personal goals that fuel my overall well-being. The OCR also highlighted my aim to read at least 7 books this semester – that’s a personal goal that keeps my mind active and engaged outside of textbooks. Taking time for these non-academic pursuits, whether it’s trying out new games, or just allowing myself to scroll on my phone for a planned break, is essential to prevent burnout. It's about remembering that motivation isn't just about pushing harder; it's also about knowing when to step back, reflect on your progress, and recharge your mental batteries. This holistic approach has truly transformed my college experience and helps me stay motivated long-term!
