✨My First Day Back at School & I Got My Hands on ✂️

Hey guys 👋🏾so this is my third time going back to cosmetology school — and they say third time’s a charm, right? Because this time, I’m finishing.

Honestly, it’s kind of embarrassing to admit. As a hairstylist, I’ve already “made it,” fallen off, made it again, quit, came back, quit again — the whole cycle. I walked away from doing hair so many times, but deep down I always missed it.

For a long time, I didn’t have the right circle around me — no other entrepreneurs or women who were truly going after their dreams. I used to admire people in corporate jobs and think they had it easier: steady paychecks, structure, and routine. But after spending the last six months being a “corporate girlie,” I realized you can be just as unorganized, stressed, and lost in that world too. And if I’m going to struggle, I’d rather struggle doing what I love.

Doing hair makes me happy. It’s like therapy for me. Packing up my tools, buying new products, setting up my salon space — it’s exciting every time. Some women feel that way about designer bags or shoes; I feel that way about professional hair products and walking into a professional beauty supply store.

Being back in school feels like I’m getting a second chance to do what I was meant to do. I get to try new styles, work with different people, and grow my skillset again. I’ve always wanted to try cutting pixies, and now I finally get that hands-on experience.

To anyone who’s thinking about going to cosmetology school — don’t stop. Don’t take long breaks like I did. Just finish. Because now that I’m back, I know this is where I belong.

Hair has always been a blessing in my life — it’s helped me provide for myself and my two kids for years. I’m thankful to God for giving me this gift and for always guiding me back to it.

This time, I’m not stopping. 💪🏾

... Read moreReturning to cosmetology school after multiple attempts can be daunting, but it’s also an opportunity for immense personal and professional growth. Many aspiring hairstylists find the path challenging, especially when balancing life responsibilities and self-doubt. However, persistence is key in this dynamic industry. Cosmetology offers a creative outlet and a chance to develop specialized skills such as cutting pixie styles, coloring, and working with diverse hair textures — all vital for building a loyal client base. Embracing hands-on experiences not only boosts confidence but also enhances technical abilities that textbooks alone can’t provide. Building the right support system plays a crucial role in sustaining motivation. Surrounding yourself with fellow entrepreneurs, ambitious stylists, and mentors nurtures growth and accountability. This network provides inspiration during tough times and celebrates milestones together. Many hairstylists equate their craft to therapy, finding peace and joy in cultivating beauty and self-expression. For some, stepping into a professional beauty supply store evokes more excitement than luxury shopping because it symbolizes progress and dedication. Even when considering traditional jobs with steady income, the passion for hairstyling often wins, as creativity and flexibility become priorities despite occasional struggles. Successfully managing a salon space and acquiring professional-grade tools symbolizes a commitment to excellence and client satisfaction. To those hesitant about finishing cosmetology school: keep pushing forward. Consistency outweighs breaks that disrupt momentum. Completing your education opens doors to certifications and advanced training, paving the way for a thriving career. Ultimately, hairstyling isn’t just a profession but a blessing and a means to support loved ones. This rewarding career empowers individuals to express themselves authentically while making a positive impact in their communities. Staying true to your passion ensures lasting fulfillment and success in this evolving field.
