Relocated from Satte City, at the end of the Edo period

私が行ったときは「無料で楽しめる 旧遠藤家」の案内が出ていて、思わず立ち寄ってしまいました。青空と茅葺き屋根の組み合わせがとても映えて、外観だけでも“昔の大きな家（豪邸感）”が伝わってきます。大きな柱や梁が見える造りで、写真を撮る手が止まりませんでした。 中は安全対策で立ち入り禁止なのですが、縁側から室内をのぞけるので雰囲気はしっかり味わえます。畳の部屋に箪笥や昔の道具が並んでいて、「この家でどんなふうに暮らしていたんだろう」と想像が広がりました。特に広い土間の奥に見える石臼やかまどなどの生活道具は、当時の“ごはん作り”が目に浮かぶようで、見ていてすごく楽しかったです。 見学のコツとしては、まず外の案内板（「旧遠藤家住宅」と書かれたもの）を読んでから回ると、どこを見ればいいかが分かりやすいです。屋根の火除け（“水・龍”の意匠）も見落としやすいので、外観をぐるっと一周してチェックするのがおすすめ。秋は紅葉もきれいで、古民家＋季節の景色がいっそう引き立ちます。 アクセス面では、旧遠藤家住宅は「埼玉県立さきたま史跡の博物館」の東側にあるので、古墳公園の散策とセットにすると満足度が高いです。博物館は観覧料がかかりますが、将軍山古墳展示館と共通で楽しめるのが嬉しいところ。私は「今日は古墳も家屋も一気に見たい！」という気分だったので、この組み合わせがちょうど良かったです。 注意点は、立ち入り禁止エリアがあるので、窓や縁側から“見る見学”が基本になること。混み合う日は、同じ場所に人が集まりやすいので、譲り合いながらゆっくり見ると落ち着いて楽しめます。無料スポットとしてふらっと寄れるのに、見どころが多くて、行田での散策コースに入れて正解でした。
