Due to being over-protected and not wanting to rebel against my parents, I often had to miss out on activities or experiences that I truly desired when I was growing up. To this day I can't wrap my mind around not being allowed to go to church camp! As a Christian parent shouldn't that be where you want your children to go?? But we won't open that bitter can of worms. And there are a lot of them. Let's just say that my kids were encouraged to go every time camp season rolled around. I try my hardest to not project my fears on them and to encourage their growth, even when it means they will be standing on their own two feet. Isn't what we should want for our kids? Not to hold them back just so we can keep them close. That's just not right. Now, I'll climb back down from my soapbox. I could have easily gone the wrong way. Maybe just give your kids a break and the benefit of a doubt now and then!

Ultimately, fostering independence does not mean relinquishing care; rather, it involves trusting children to learn from experiences, sometimes even mistakes, as part of their journey to becoming confident adults.
