Easy DIY Toilet Cleaning Bombs 🚽🫧

A lot of DIY toilet bomb recipes use citric acid, but it’s not something I usually have on hand. This version skips it completely, and it still fizzes and holds together really well. It’s non-toxic, easy to make, and perfect for freshening up the toilet without any harsh chemicals!

What You’ll Need:

• 1 cup baking soda (cleaner)

• 1 tablespoon cornstarch (bonding agent)

• 1/4 cup vinegar (cleaner)

• 15 drops essential oil of your choice (scent)

Step 1: Mix dry ingredients

Start by combining the baking soda and cornstarch in a bowl. These are your base, and getting them fully mixed now helps everything stay even once the liquid is added.

Step 2: Add vinegar slowly

Pour the vinegar in a little at a time while stirring constantly. It’ll fizz at first, which is normal. You’re looking for the mixture to clump together like damp sand. If it’s too dry, add a few extra drops of vinegar. If it’s too wet, sprinkle in a bit more baking soda.

Step 3: Add essential oils

Once you’ve got that damp sand texture, add your essential oil and stir again. Lemon, eucalyptus, or lavender work great for this, but any scent you like will work!

Step 4: Mold and dry

Scoop the mixture into silicone molds or liners. Press it down firmly to pack everything in - this helps them hold their shape once dry. Let them sit out in a cool, dry place for 24 to 48 hours to fully harden.

To use:

Just drop one into your toilet and let it fizz away. They’re great for freshening up the bowl between cleanings. I like to keep a jar of them on hand in the bathroom - they smell great and make quick refreshes easy.

They’re simple, they work, and they don’t require anything fancy. I’ve been making them regularly ever since!

... Read moreDIY toilet cleaning bombs are a great eco-friendly alternative to commercial chemical cleaners. They use natural ingredients like baking soda and vinegar which are renowned for their cleaning and deodorizing properties. Baking soda acts as a gentle abrasive and deodorizer, while vinegar provides acidity to break down stains and mineral buildup inside the toilet bowl. The addition of cornstarch in this recipe serves as a bonding agent, helping the bombs maintain their shape and dissolve gradually when submerged in water. Essential oils not only add a refreshing scent but can also carry antibacterial properties depending on the oil chosen, such as lemon, eucalyptus, or lavender. To optimize their effectiveness, it’s important to allow the bombs to dry completely for 24 to 48 hours, ensuring they harden well and last longer during use. Store them in an airtight container to preserve their fizz and scent. Using these toilet bombs regularly, approximately 1-2 times per week, can keep toilets fresh and cleaner between deep cleans, reducing reliance on harsh chemical products that may irritate skin or respiratory systems. Plus, making your own cleaning products at home can be cost-effective and satisfying. This recipe eliminates citric acid commonly found in other DIY toilet bomb recipes, making it more accessible for those who may not have it on hand. The fizzing reaction you see when vinegar interacts with baking soda is a safe and natural way to break down dirt and grime. By embracing natural ingredients and a simple process, these DIY toilet bombs represent a sustainable approach to maintaining bathroom hygiene that aligns well with environmentally conscious living and non-toxic household practices.
