🧼 Easy DIY Non-Toxic Cleaners

Everyday household cleaners can contain dozens of unregulated chemicals—some linked to hormone disruption, asthma, and skin irritation. A 2021 EWG report found that even “green” labeled products often hide volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and synthetic fragrances that linger in the air long after you’ve cleaned. 😷

That’s why I started making my own low-cost, non-toxic cleaning products with basic items.

It’s safer for curious little hands and easier on my wallet.

I still use commercial products when it comes to high-touch, germ-heavy spots like bathroom sinks and toilet handles. It’s about balance, not perfection. 💛

For instance, you can make an all-purpose cleaner with just water, white vinegar, baking soda, and optional essential oils for a pleasant scent. This cleaner is excellent for countertops and general surfaces, effectively removing grime without toxic residues. For glass surfaces, you can prepare a streak-free glass cleaner by mixing water, white vinegar, cornstarch, and a few drops of essential oil. Cornstarch is a key ingredient that helps eliminate those frustrating streaks that often appear after cleaning. In the bathroom, a mixture of baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, and dish soap creates a powerful paste that can tackle stubborn stains on tubs and tiles. Let it sit for a few minutes for enhanced cleaning power. For wooden furniture, a polish made from olive oil, vinegar, and lemon essential oil will not only clean but also nourish the wood, restoring its natural shine.
