Holiday Touches for People Who Hate Clutter 🎁
I always love decorating for Christmas, but a lot of the inspo I find online involves going “all out”: big statues, hanging ornaments, clutter everywhere. And for those of us that like clean, open spaces, it can be hard to find the balance between festive and chaotic.
Over time, I’ve learned ways to decorate for the holidays that make a difference without crowding the space. A few small changes can make the season feel special without feeling messy. Here are my favorites:
Ribbons & Bows on Cupboards
This instantly makes your whole kitchen feel decorated, without taking up space. I find a big roll of ribbon, cut and tape it to the inside of the cupboard, and glue on a bow to the middle.
Christmas S&P Shakers
It’s something we leave out all the time - so swapping them out for Christmas ones is a cute little holiday touch without adding anything unnecessary.
Throw Pillow Covers
I love swapping out everyday items for something more festive, and throw pillows are the perfect way to do that. They really help your living room look festive while using what you already have.
Swapping Out Everyday Decor
This is my favorite way - I swap out everyday pieces for holiday ones. It doesn’t take up any room, and you can just use the same nail it was already hanging on.
Utilizing Space
I try to avoid clutter by decorating furniture I already have up - like my entertainment center, book cases, etc. It brings in the holiday look while keeping everything open.
Holiday Throw Blankets
Another swap - I switch out my usual throw blankets, for Christmas ones. It adds just the right amount of holiday touch without going all out.
Simple Table Decor
To keep my table from getting crowded, I use a single holiday placemat as a guide and add a few pieces of decor. It adds the festive look, without cluttering my table.
These easy swaps let me enjoy a festive home without filling it with unnecessary stuff. Little changes make a big difference and keep everything feeling clean and cozy!
