I was so thrilled to finally assemble a 60-card deck that felt both cohesive and fun to play. One card that truly caught my eye and became a core part of my initial strategy was Hidden Cove. When I first saw it in my collection, I immediately started thinking about its potential.
For those unfamiliar, Hidden Cove is a location card that offers some fantastic advantages, especially for card draw and maintaining board presence. My goal was to leverage its ability to let me draw an extra card each turn if I had a character there, and also reduce the ink cost to play characters to that location. This seemed like a perfect recipe for keeping my hand full and getting my important characters into play more efficiently. I figured that staying ahead in card advantage would be key to winning games, and Hidden Cove felt like a consistent way to achieve that.
I really tried to build around this idea, looking for characters that could benefit from being at Hidden Cove or that could protect it. For instance, having characters like Kuzco or The Queen felt important for controlling the game state while Hidden Cove did its work, drawing me into more resources. I also included various versions of Diablo and characters like Archimedes and Thomas O'Malley, who could exert pressure or provide utility that benefited from a steady stream of cards. The idea was to always have options, whether it was deploying a new threat or reacting to my opponent's moves.
Getting to the full 60 cards was an interesting journey. I considered powerful actions like The Beast Is Mine! and Improvise to interact with my opponent's board or gain sudden advantages. Cards like Stampede also felt like a good fit for clearing the way for my characters. It wasn't just about throwing in powerful cards; it was about finding the synergy, especially with Hidden Cove at the heart of it. I even experimented with characters like Yzma and Lena Sabrewing, thinking about how their abilities could complement the overall strategy of drawing cards and controlling the board.
What I learned from this first deck build is how crucial it is to have a consistent game plan, even if it's a simple one. Hidden Cove provided that consistency, allowing me to cycle through my deck and find the answers I needed. It’s been an incredible learning experience, and I can’t wait to refine this deck and see how it performs in actual gameplay. If you’re building your first Lorcana deck, don’t be afraid to pick a card you love and try to build around it – it makes the process so much more rewarding!
