give yourself permission to let go of fear & anxiety

Around year 5 of our marriage, I remember telling my husband that things felt too good to be true and that I knew something bad was coming our way. It's a normal right of passage, everyone has hard times, so I was confused as to why our "hardship" had not come yet. But my husband told me to stop thinking the worst. To stop expecting trials. Sometimes life is just good. Live in it. Be grateful for it, and let go of your survival mode.

For years, I lived in a state of heightened alert, always bracing for the worst, which kept me from truly enjoying good moments. It wasn’t until I consciously decided to let go of this survival mode mindset that I began to realize how much it was holding me back—from happiness, peace, and even embracing blessings that came my way. One practical step I took was to practice gratitude daily, no matter how small the positive experience. Writing down just three things I was thankful for each day shifted my focus from anxiety to appreciation. Also, I started giving myself permission to feel safe and content without the need to constantly anticipate trouble. This mindset change helped reduce my tension and allowed me to live more fully in the present. I believe that sometimes, life is just good, and it’s okay to accept that without suspicion or worry. Letting go of survival mode doesn’t mean ignoring potential challenges but rather not letting fear dominate your reality. If you find yourself always tense and expecting something bad, try pausing and consciously choosing to embrace gratitude and calm instead. This change isn’t easy overnight, but it’s liberating when you realize that your fears might be the only thing holding you back from experiencing true happiness.
