Getting into reading has been one of my favorite new healthy habits in my life and as a girl with a lot of anxiety and overthinking issues, reading, genuinely helps take my mind off of everything going on in my life! Here’s how I personally got into reading 📖🩷
Picking a genre that genuinely interests you is very important because if you’re not excited to read a book, there’s not gonna be that crave to want to keep reading the book that you have ! My favorite genre is ❤️romance❤️ because I just love reading love stories it gets me excited and what girl doesn’t love a good love story?!
My favorite authors are Tessa Bailey and Hannah Grace as of right now ✨
Enjoying a cute little coffee, or your favorite treat while reading also makes the experience a lot better too! ☕️🍇🍉🍒🍓🫐
Having a nice location to read whether it be your room, your backyard, the beach, the park, etc. can really help you focus on reading because I personally find it pretty hard to read in a loud setting or when there’s a lot going on in my environment 🌊☀️💆♀️
Hopefully these tips can help you guys get into reading just like I did and adapt a new healthy habit in your life💕
... Read moreSo glad you're looking to dive deeper into reading! It's truly transformed my mental well-being, and I've got even more tips to share to make it an even more enriching experience. My original post mentioned finding genres that interest you, and I can't stress this enough! While romance, with authors like Tessa Bailey ('Hook, Line, and Sinker') and Hannah Grace ('Icebreaker', 'Wildfire') really hooks me, don't be afraid to experiment. Use services like Goodreads or your local library's staff picks to explore. Maybe try a cozy mystery, a thrilling fantasy adventure, or an inspiring memoir. The key is to find what genuinely sparks your curiosity and makes you excited to pick up that book.
I know sometimes it's hard to stay focused, especially when life gets busy. For moments when I feel a reading slump coming on, I try a few things. First, don't be afraid to put a book down if it's not working for you. Life's too short to read books you don't enjoy! Second, try setting small, achievable goals, like reading for just 15 minutes a day. You'd be surprised how quickly those pages add up. Remember the OCR image that said 'HOW TO GET INTO READING'? It's about making small, consistent efforts to build that habit.
Making reading a ritual is a game-changer! My original post and the OCR images highlighted 'Enjoy your fave treat while reading' and 'Pick a nice location to relax & read your book'. For me, a warm cup of coffee or a fresh fruit platter alongside a new release from Tessa Bailey, perhaps 'It Happened One Summer', makes reading feel like a special treat. And choosing that perfect spot – whether it's a sunny window nook, a quiet corner in a coffee shop, or even just your comfy bed – helps create a focused, peaceful environment. I especially love finding a spot by the ocean, just like in the OCR image, it's so calming and helps me truly unwind with my book.
Beyond just starting, how do you keep reading? I've found that joining online book communities or even a local book club provides amazing motivation. Discussing books with others introduces you to new perspectives and recommendations. Also, consider different formats! E-readers are fantastic for portability, and audiobooks let you 'read' while commuting or doing chores. My library app is a lifesaver for accessing books for free, expanding my reading list without breaking the bank.
Finally, I love tracking my reads. Apps like StoryGraph or even a simple journal help me see my progress, reflect on what I loved (or didn't!), and plan my next literary adventure. It turns reading into a rewarding journey, not just a task. It really helps me stay on track to be the 'reading girly' I aspire to be and ensure I'm always discovering new stories and authors!
This is such a good idea
