Reading 'Cruel King' by Rina Kent was truly an addictive experience for me. The story centres around Astrid Clifford, an ordinary girl navigating the dangerous halls of the prestigious Royal Elite School. What captivated me most was the complex relationship between Astrid and Levi King, the kingdom’s feared and powerful student. Their battle of wills, filled with tension and undeniable attraction, kept me hooked from start to finish. What sets this novel apart in the dark romance genre is its intricate layering of secrets and character growth. Levi’s alpha and possessive nature contrasts with Astrid’s refusal to be intimidated, creating a dynamic enemies-to-lovers trope that felt fresh and riveting. Throughout the story, they confront harsh family histories and painful truths that add depth and emotional weight to their journey. I also appreciated the twists and turns sprinkled throughout the narrative—they were unexpected yet plausible, maintaining suspense without feeling forced. The author masterfully blends intense romance with high school drama and royal intrigue, making it perfect for readers who enjoy stories that are both dark and emotionally complex.
