Slice the beef against the grain into thin strips. Place it into a bowl and add in the soy sauce, cornstarch, black pepper, and baking soda. Mix all of the ingredients together well and set aside to marinate.
Mix the sauce ingredients in a bowl and set it aside.
Add 1-2 tablespoons of oil to a pan on medium, high heat then add in the beef. Use a spoon to separate the pieces so that they do not overlap. Cook the beef for a couple of minutes per side, until browned on all sides, and remove it from the pan

... Read moreWhen I first tried making beef and broccoli stir-fry at home, I was amazed how such simple ingredients could come together to create a dish that’s both healthy and satisfying. The key to tender beef lies in slicing it thinly against the grain, which breaks up muscle fibers and helps it cook quickly without becoming tough. I also found marinating the beef with soy sauce, cornstarch, black pepper, and a pinch of baking soda really boosts the tenderness and flavor.
Boiling the broccoli for exactly two minutes is crucial to keep it crisp yet tender once it simmers in the sauce. I sometimes steam it as an alternative if I want to preserve more nutrients and maintain its bright green color. The garlic lightly browned in oil adds a wonderful aroma and depth to the dish.
Making the stir-fry sauce from oyster sauce, soy sauce, water, cornstarch, brown sugar, and black pepper ensures a perfect balance of savory, sweet, and slightly peppery notes. The cornstarch thickens the sauce so it clings nicely to the beef and broccoli, giving each bite fantastic flavor. When cooking, it's important to stir continuously once the sauce is added to avoid lumps and to cook until just thickened.
Serving this stir-fry over steamed white rice or noodles makes it a comforting and complete meal. I love customizing this recipe by adding a few slices of red bell pepper or mushrooms for extra color and nutrients. For an even healthier option, swap white rice for brown rice or quinoa.

It’s a nourishing dish that combines protein, vegetables, and bold flavors without complicated techniques or hard-to-find ingredients.
