Self Care Books for a mental GLOW UP ✨🧘🧠

2024/7/18 Edited to

... Read moreHey everyone! 👋 You know how sometimes you just get stuck in your own head, replaying conversations, worrying about the future, or analyzing every tiny detail? That's been me, more times than I care to admit. I’ve been on a mission for a true mental glow up, and while I've found so many incredible self-care books on this journey, one particular gem really helped me tackle that persistent beast: overthinking. I’m talking about Sabrina Alexis Bendory's "You're Overthinking It," often associated with Thought Catalog. If you’ve ever felt paralyzed by your thoughts, this book feels like a conversation with a wise, understanding friend who who just gets it. It’s not about magical fixes, but about understanding the patterns of your mind and gently, yet firmly, shifting them. For me, it was a crucial step towards truly starting to "change the way I think," a concept I also found powerful in Brianna Wiest's "101 Essays That Will Change The Way You Think." Both authors offer such profound insights into navigating our internal worlds. What I loved most about Sabrina’s approach is its practicality. It delves into why we overthink – often rooted in fears, insecurities, or past experiences – and then offers actionable strategies to break free. It helped me realize that a lot of my anxiety stemmed from trying to control things I couldn't, and that true peace comes from acceptance and presence. This resonated so deeply with the themes in John Parkin’s "The Power of Letting Go," which taught me the liberation that comes from releasing what no longer serves you. Reading "You're Overthinking It" felt like getting "everyday tools for life's ups & downs" – much like Dr. Julie Smith's "Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before?" It gave me a framework to identify when I was spiraling and how to gently pull myself back. It’s not just about stopping negative thought loops; it’s about cultivating a healthier mindset that allows for genuine "heal, grow, love," as Pierre Alex Jeanty beautifully puts it. This book helped me shift from feeling like "shit" (to borrow from Andrea Owen’s brilliant title, "How To Stop Feeling Like Shit") to feeling empowered and more in control of my emotional landscape. It's truly a book for anyone looking to build confidence, improve relationships (especially the one with yourself!), and cultivate a calmer, more balanced existence. For me, it became a foundational piece in my self-care routine, helping me integrate other practices like moments of reflection and self-compassion found in Alexandra Elle's "After The Rain." If you’re struggling with the constant internal chatter, I highly recommend exploring Sabrina Alexis Bendory’s work. It’s a powerful ally in moving beyond analysis paralysis and stepping into a more intentional, joyful life. Let me know in the comments if you’ve read it or have other go-to books for overthinking!
