Money Over Love

money over love

2024/12/12 Edited to

... Read moreThe phrase "money over love" often sparks strong reactions, but what does it truly mean to those who embrace it? For many, it's not a cold, calculated rejection of affection, but a deeply personal stance born from experience and a desire for security. I've often heard people debate this, and I wanted to share my perspective on why someone might make such a declaration. From my point of view, and what I've observed in life, choosing money over love isn't about materialism in the shallowest sense. It's frequently about laying down a foundation for stability and independence. Think about it: financial struggles can be a huge source of stress in any relationship, often leading to arguments and resentment that erode even the strongest bonds. When you're constantly worried about bills, about making ends meet, or about providing for yourself or your loved ones, it leaves little room for the kind of carefree joy and connection that love thrives on. That's why for some, saying "I'll forever choose money" is a statement of self-preservation and a quest for peace of mind. Now, let's talk about the more direct, almost conditional aspect implied by phrases like "over you.. so act right." This isn't just about general financial security; it speaks to a specific dynamic. It highlights situations where love might have come with a cost – perhaps emotional instability, a lack of support, or even being taken advantage of. When someone feels they've given their all in a relationship only to be let down or disrespected, the idea of prioritizing personal resources becomes a shield. It's a way of saying, "I've learned my lesson; my well-being, including my financial well-being, comes first, especially if you're not going to 'act right' and treat me with the respect and commitment I deserve." This perspective often comes from a place of wanting to avoid being vulnerable or dependent. Financial independence offers a sense of control and freedom that can be incredibly empowering. It means you're not bound by circumstances or by someone else's choices. It means you can leave a situation that isn't serving you, without fear of destitution. For me, this resonates deeply because I believe everyone deserves to feel secure and capable of standing on their own two feet, regardless of their relationship status. Ultimately, "money over love" isn't necessarily about choosing to be alone or to live a loveless life. It's about understanding that a solid financial footing can enable a healthier, more balanced life, one where you can enter relationships from a place of strength, not need. It's about recognizing that sometimes, the most loving thing you can do for yourself is to ensure your own security first. It allows you to protect your energy and resources, ensuring that when love does come along, it's a true partnership, built on mutual respect and shared abundance, rather than financial dependency or emotional obligation. It’s about being able to say, "I can take care of myself," which is a powerful message to both yourself and others.
