Laid off of work 🥱😭

2024/4/20 Edited to

... Read moreWow, it's been a whirlwind since I shared openly about being laid off! The initial shock and feeling of being completely lost were overwhelming. I truly appreciate everyone who reached out with their stories and suggestions – it made a huge difference. I realized I Need Advice... AskLemon8 wasn't just a hashtag; it was a genuine plea, and the community really stepped up. One of the biggest struggles, as many of you pointed out, was navigating the emotional rollercoaster of job loss. It's not just about the financial hit; it's about identity, routine, and sometimes, even self-worth. My biggest piece of 'job loss guidance' I've gathered is to allow yourself to feel those emotions. It’s okay to be sad, angry, or frustrated. But then, it’s about picking yourself up. I found that creating a new, albeit temporary, routine really helped. Instead of endless scrolling, I started dedicating specific hours to job applications, and then strictly separating that time from self-care or learning. The boredom was real, and so many of you resonated with the 'ennui advisory' aspect of my post. It’s easy to fall into a slump when your days suddenly feel empty. What’s helped me conquer this is rediscovering old hobbies and trying new, low-cost activities. I started going for long walks in local parks, reading books I’d put off, and even trying out some free online courses to upskill in areas I was interested in. There are so many free resources out there! Volunteering for a cause I care about also gave me a sense of purpose and structure, which really combated that dull, aimless feeling. It's not just about filling time, but about filling it with things that bring a little joy or personal growth. And then there's the big one: networking after job loss. This felt incredibly daunting at first. It felt like admitting defeat. But many of you shared fantastic 'tips for networking after job loss' that completely changed my perspective. Instead of seeing it as asking for a job, I started viewing it as simply connecting with people, learning about different industries, and sharing my story. I updated my LinkedIn profile, not just with my resume, but with a more personal message about my current journey. I reached out to former colleagues for informational interviews, not just to ask for leads, but to genuinely understand their roles and challenges. I even attended a few virtual industry events, which felt less intimidating than in-person ones. The key, I learned, is to be authentic and focus on building relationships, not just on immediate job opportunities. Sometimes, just sharing your story can open unexpected doors. Remember, everyone has a network, and it's okay to tap into it, respectfully and genuinely. This journey is tough, but connecting with others makes it so much more manageable.

looking to get off the tourist track in Greece?
Greece has alooooot more to offer than just Santorini and Mykonos (as dreamy as they are). If you’re craving something a little more off the mainstream path—where the beaches are just as stunning, the villages still feel authentic, and the pace is slower—these islands should be on your radar.

Sentimental framing ideas that work
One of my favorite ways to decorate is by framing sentimental items like napkins, ticket stubs, letters, and other little keepsakes. It turns meaningful memories into one-of-a-kind decor, allowing you to relive special moments every time you see them! ~Recipe card: this may be one of my favorites!
