Every medal I proudly display, like those from SAN BLAS 1539, MEDIO MARATON ELMU, and MANATI HALF MARATHON, tells a unique story of training, perseverance, and triumph. If you're dreaming of conquering your first 21K or adding another to your collection, let me share a few insights from my own experiences. My journey to collecting these 'PUERTO RICO HALF MARATHONS AWARD' medals wasn't always easy. There were early morning runs, tough long runs in the heat, and moments of self-doubt. But the discipline it builds is immense. For anyone aiming for a half marathon like the CSILO 21K, consistency is key. Don't skip those mid-week runs, and make sure your long run builds gradually. I found it helpful to incorporate strength training twice a week to prevent injuries, especially targeting my core and leg muscles. Hydration and nutrition are equally crucial; experimenting with what works best for your body during training will save you a lot of discomfort on race day. The CSILO 21K was particularly memorable for its atmosphere. The energy from the crowd and fellow runners always gives you that extra push when you feel like you're hitting a wall. On race day, my advice is always to trust your training and stick to your planned pace. It's so easy to get carried away by the excitement at the start! I've learned to start slower and finish strong. Fueling correctly before and during the race, using gels or chews that I practiced with, made a huge difference in avoiding bonking. And don't forget the importance of a good night's sleep before the big day! Crossing that finish line, whether it's for the CHEZIK HALF or the CSILO 21K, is an unparalleled feeling of accomplishment. Seeing my race bib being clipped to a medal always brings a huge smile to my face. It's not just about the physical challenge; it's about pushing mental boundaries and discovering what you're truly capable of. Each medal represents not just a completed distance, but a personal victory. So, if you're on the fence about signing up for a half marathon, I wholeheartedly encourage you to go for it. Start small, build up your mileage, find a training plan that suits you, and most importantly, enjoy the process. The running community is incredibly supportive, and the sense of camaraderie on race day is something truly special. Who knows, maybe one day you'll be proudly displaying your own collection of half marathon medals, just like mine!
