🍜🦀🍳 Bangkok's famous jumbo lump crab omelette and Pad Thai! Have you tried Krua Apsorn? #padthai #crab 您尝过曼谷著名的蟹肉煎蛋卷或泰式炒河粉吗?#thai #authentic #noodles #seafood #omelette #crab #delicious
So, the legendary Krua Apsorn crab omelette in Bangkok – is it truly worth the hype? Like many of you, I'd seen this spot, lauded as "Michelin recommended for many, many years in a row," including 2025 (which, as the OCR noted, is surprisingly forward-looking!), pop up everywhere as a must-try. My curiosity, and my love for authentic Thai food, finally led me to experience it firsthand. The star attraction, without a doubt, is the jumbo lump crab omelette. We opted to try both the premium version, overflowing with even more crab, and the regular one. Visually, it’s a masterpiece: a perfectly golden, fluffy omelette generously studded with substantial pieces of fresh crab meat. You can immediately see why it's so famous. However, and this is where my 'personal preference' comes in, I found the crab itself to have a slightly pronounced 'fishy' taste. While the omelette was cooked beautifully – rich, moist, and perfectly browned – I personally prefer a sweeter, more delicate crab flavor. It didn't quite hit the high notes I'd anticipated for a dish so widely celebrated, leading me to ponder if it might be a tad overhyped *for my specific palate*. But don't let that deter you from visiting, because Krua Apsorn surprised me with some absolute hidden gems! Forget the "worth the hype?" debate for a moment and consider the grilled squid. This dish was an unexpected revelation – incredibly tender, perfectly cooked without an ounce of chewiness, and bursting with a savory, smoky flavor. It was, hands down, the best dish we ordered. Similarly, the stir fry glass noodle was excellent and incredibly delicious, a vibrant mix of textures and fresh ingredients that truly left an impression. For families, or just those who appreciate a good snack, my kids absolutely loved the flavorful chicken wings you could see in the background of our meal. Now, about the Pad Thai, another dish Krua Apsorn is known for. While perfectly decent, I have to be honest: I've had better. In fact, a particular cooking school in Chiang Mai holds my personal record for the best Pad Thai experience. So, if your primary goal is to find the absolute pinnacle of Pad Thai in Bangkok, you might want to keep exploring. For anyone planning a visit, here are a few practical tips. Krua Apsorn is "loved by locals and tourists alike," so expect it to be bustling. It maintains a wonderfully authentic, unpretentious local restaurant vibe despite its Michelin accolades. To avoid the longest queues, I'd highly recommend going during off-peak hours – perhaps a late lunch or an early dinner – as it can get very crowded. Don't be afraid to explore the menu beyond the famous crab omelette; my experience proved that some of their other dishes, like the squid and glass noodles, are truly exceptional and offer fantastic value. It's an integral part of Bangkok's vibrant food scene, offering a taste of tradition that’s definitely worth experiencing, even if you find certain dishes are a matter of personal taste.
