my life growing up

I remember doing chores as a kid

which is something that was taught to my

nieces and nephews

1/24 Edited to

... Read moreGrowing up, chores were more than just tasks; they were foundational life lessons. From sweeping floors to washing dishes, these everyday responsibilities taught me the value of hard work and self-discipline. I often reminded my nieces and nephews that if they could handle the complexity of tablets, phones, or games, they certainly could manage basic household chores like sweeping, mopping, or doing dishes—as the saying goes, "If a child can work a tablet, phone, or game... they can work a broom, mop, and dishes!" In today's digital age, it’s easy for kids to get caught up in screen time, but incorporating chores into their routine helps build practical skills and a sense of contribution to the household. These small actions foster independence and boost self-esteem because kids see the impact of their work. From my experience, involving children in chores also encourages teamwork and family bonding. Sharing responsibilities reduces burdens on parents and creates opportunities for teaching moments about cleanliness, organization, and time management. Plus, it instills respect for the effort that goes into maintaining a home. Ultimately, growing up with chores prepared me for adult life by teaching me accountability and work ethic. It’s a simple yet powerful way to nurture responsibility and life skills in children, ensuring they grow into capable, confident individuals who appreciate the value of effort and care.

I despise dusting so I taught my son, who was 3, how to dust. He just loved dusting & considered it fun/game time. One day he was at "Auntie Janet's" (he loved it there; she was my best friend) One such day, I went to work & she asked him to dust. About 10 minutes go by & here AJ is calling for him. She couldn't see him anywhere. She finally told him game time was over & to quit hiding. He peeks from under the tablecloth on her end table and says he is here. She asked him what he was doing & he shows her how polished her wooden antique table is....the underneath of the table ❣️ Poor AJ had to sit, laugh, thank him & hug him. She told me this story when I came to get him & there John Albert stood, so proud of his thorough job…Auntie Janet also taught him how to write his name in one afternoon. They sure did love each other. AJ is in Heaven now and really made a difference in his life, and he in hers. When you are a parent, sometimes "it takes a Village."❤️
