Project Durian - for hymnals restorationšŸ¤”?

The šŸŒž is out last Saturday so we took opportunity to clean the final batch of moldy hymnals for the very much wanted UV therapy.

And know what? We discovered something unexpected 🤭🤭🤭

Because of the mold, these books stick together, so we have to separate them and while we are doing so, it sounds exactly like prying open a very fresh Durian! šŸ‡øšŸ‡¬

Turn your volume UP šŸ”Š for that satisfying "crackle" ASMR.

My pastor was amaze why I named this Project Durian, now he understood! šŸ˜‚šŸ˜… Who knew book restoration could sound so delicious?

... Read moreCleaning and restoring old hymnals is often a tedious task, but using natural elements like sunlight for UV therapy can be surprisingly effective against mold. When mold causes books to stick together, carefully separating them without damage is crucial. The unexpected crackling sounds, reminiscent of prying open a fresh durian fruit, added a unique sensory experience to the restoration process—highlighting how even restoration work can have unexpectedly delightful moments. From personal experience, UV exposure helps to sanitize and reduce mold spores on paper materials, making this an eco-friendly approach compared to chemical treatments. While separating stuck pages, it’s important to work slowly and patiently to avoid tearing fragile paper. This project also emphasizes how sensory feedback—like the ASMR-like crackle—can make routine tasks more engaging and memorable. Such feedback often occurs with aged, mold-affected paper that becomes brittle and crisp. For anyone restoring similar materials, ensure adequate ventilation and use personal protective equipment when dealing with mold. Documenting the sounds and progress of book restoration can offer both motivation and a unique record of the process, as demonstrated by the "Project Durian" concept. It’s fascinating how something as specialized as hymnals restoration can evoke the enjoyable sensory qualities of something entirely different, like the iconic durian fruit sound, bringing a smile to those involved.
