One thing I’m doing to help make day’s smoother as a WFHM of 2?

Prepping our morning basket + a loose toddler activity plan the night before.☺️

Life still happens-but having something ready makes all the difference. Especially in those hard overwhelming moments of your day when you can’t think of what the heck to do to keep your babe busy & off screens.

Start small. Future you will thank you 🫶🏾

... Read moreOkay, fellow work-from-home moms (WFHMs), let's be real. Those mornings can feel like a marathon before you've even had your first sip of coffee, especially with little ones underfoot. I know the struggle: trying to get some work done, keep a toddler engaged, and avoid the dreaded screen time spiral. That’s why I absolutely swear by a simple trick that's transformed my days: prepping just a few things the night before. It sounds so basic, right? But honestly, this one habit drastically reduces the decision fatigue and mental load that can crush us before noon. Instead of scrambling to find something for my little one to do while I answer emails, I already have a plan. It’s not about being rigid; life with toddlers is anything but predictable! It’s about having a ready-made solution when those overwhelming moments hit and you just can't think of what the heck to do. Future me seriously sends past me a virtual high-five every single morning. One of my go-to prep items is our Morning Activity Basket. This isn't some Pinterest-perfect setup; it's simply a basket filled with rotating, engaging activities. You could include a new (or not-so-new!) Dollar Tree Paint-with-Water Book, some easy Puzzle Match games, or a container of Playdough & Cutter sets. I also make sure to rotate in some Books she hasn't read in a while – it's amazing how "new" an old book can feel after a break! The goal is independent play, giving me those precious moments to focus on work tasks without constant interruptions. Another absolute lifesaver is a Sensory Bin. These are fantastic for keeping busy hands occupied for surprisingly long stretches. You don’t need anything fancy! I’ve had huge success with a simple Pasta Sensory Bin (using a Melissa & Doug Pasta Kit for an easy start, or just dried pasta from the pantry!). A Rubble & Crew Construction Bin with some dried beans and small diggers is another hit. The beauty of sensory bins is they encourage exploration, fine motor skills, and creative play. And for those of us balancing work with a sprinkle of homeschooling or just wanting some creative outlets, prepping craft supplies is a game-changer. I often set out materials for an Independent Craft from a Craft Box, like a Popsicle Craft or even just paper and crayons for some Rainbow Art. Having everything laid out means less mess and more focused creative time for them, and for me, a little more peace while I tackle my to-do list. The key here, as the original post emphasizes, is to start small. Don't try to prep an entire week's worth of activities instantly. Maybe tonight, just set out one simple activity for tomorrow morning. See how it feels. Then, maybe add another. It's truly not about doing it all perfectly, but about having something ready when you need it most. That little bit of foresight can change the whole vibe of your day, replacing scrambling and stress with calm and productive moments for everyone. Trust me, less scrambling equals so much more peace for us WFHMs!
