Debunking Hair Growth Myths 💆🏾‍♀️

Explanation:

Hair growth oils - notice I didn’t say oiling hair. I’m specifically talking about oils for sale that market the product as if it’s the key to hair growth. Sometimes just read the ingredients and it should make you think “it’s literally just 3 oils mixed together.” It’s just good marketing but don’t fall for it.

Dirty hair - if you’re someone who left your braids or sew in or whatever in for months and you swear it’s a whole lot of new growth…you could be being deceived. But when it is the case, what it really is is that you left your hair alone. For once it wasn’t going through a lot of tension or manipulation, it was just left alone and it loves that. However dirty hair can come with mold, dryness and more. It’ll thrive the most clean and moisturized.

Titanium tools - emphasis on “for at home use.” You likely see stylists using them bc tbh they are the truth…in the hands of a professional. IMO heat damage is more likely to happen with incorrect use of titanium tools.

Black hair doesn’t grow - this is self explanatory but recently it’s become a topic more near and dear to me. I am Black and the amount of comments I get refuting that is mind boggling. There are many examples of Black girls with long hair on social media in case you haven’t seen it in person. Why is this not as common as we’d like? Incorrect hair knowledge is very common. Perming Black children’s hair before they even reach elementary school, keeping it in braided styles with extensions back to back, never trimming or using actual conditioning products. These are all examples of people I know personally. No, everyone’s hair will not grow the same amount. But in almost every case I’ve seen their hair can grow more than it has before. Not to mention diet. I have a separate video on how low vitamin D and iron can affect hair health. Guess which community faces this the most? I’m an advocate for visiting professionals to get their analysis and advice while on your journey. If we know better, we’ll do better and we’ll see better results. Whether it’s growth or overall health (bc not everyone wants long hair).

How I’m growing lately: mindset shifts 💆🏾‍♀️ after going viral on TikTok I should’ve known there would be some negativity but as much as I’ve gotten was uncalled for. The lesson I had to learn though is that not every negative comment needs a response. It’s actually become way more obvious when someone’s saying something offensive or weird with the sole purpose being to cause a reaction. The takeaway has been I’m literally good so don’t even bother. I’ve reached my goal and the audience I’m trying to reach sees the content.

... Read moreIn recent years, numerous myths surrounding hair growth have gained popularity, often fueled by marketing tactics and misinformation. Understanding the science behind hair growth is essential to nurture healthy hair and avoid common pitfalls. Hair growth oils are frequently marketed as miracle solutions, but many are simply blends of basic oils with no proven ability to stimulate hair growth. Instead, focus on maintaining scalp health and using products with clinically supported ingredients like biotin, niacin, and essential vitamins. The notion that dirty hair promotes growth is misleading. While leaving hair alone without excessive manipulation can reduce breakage and damage, an unclean scalp can harbor mold, bacteria, and cause dryness, all detrimental to healthy hair follicles. Regular cleansing and moisturizing create a better environment for hair to thrive. Titanium styling tools provide professional results but require expert handling. Improper use at home often leads to heat damage, which weakens hair strands and hampers growth. Investing in heat protectant products and minimizing heat exposure is advisable. A widespread misconception is that Black hair does not grow. In reality, Black hair has similar growth rates to other hair types but is more prone to breakage due to its curly, fragile texture. Factors like frequent perming, tight braided styles, and neglecting trims or conditioning seriously impact hair length retention. Nutritional deficiencies, particularly low vitamin D and iron, are significant contributors to poor hair health in many Black communities. Professional assessment and a personalized hair care regimen are vital. Visiting hair care specialists can offer insights customized to individual hair needs, helping overcome challenges related to texture, health, and growth goals. Lastly, mindset plays a critical role in any hair journey. Embracing patience, rejecting negative comments, and focusing on healthy habits contribute substantially to achieving desired results. Awareness and education empower better hair care choices, leading to improved hair growth and healthier scalp condition overall.
