Major changes can be hard

Okay, let’s talk about something real *changing your major halfway through college.* Yup, Right before my Senior year, I switched from ASL interpreting to education. And honestly? It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

I was struggling in the interpreting program. My peers were thriving, and I just couldn’t keep up. It was hard to admit, but I realized I wasn’t passionate enough to push through and I didn’t see a future in that career for me.

So instead of forcing it, I pivoted. I took a step back and asked myself, What do I actually love? And that led me to education. I’ve always loved helping people learn and grow and this path made me excited for the future.

Changing your major isn’t failure; it’s figuring it out. You’re allowed to change your mind. You’re allowed to grow. And sometimes, the best thing you can do is choose the path that feels right, even if it’s not the one you started on.

... Read moreChanging your major is a significant decision that reflects personal growth and self-discovery. As students approach the pivotal transition from high school to college, it's common to choose a path they may later reconsider. Factors such as STEM vs. humanities interests can shape one's academic trajectory. For many, anxiety over selecting a major comes from fear of failure or uncertainty about available career paths. However, switching majors can be a positive and liberating decision, revealing more accurate insights into personal passions. Colleges offer resources like career counseling and workshops that help students re-evaluate their trajectories. Many students report feeling re-energized when they pursue what aligns with their interests and strengths. Additionally, statistics show that a significant percentage of college students change their majors at least once during their studies. This highlights that exploration is a normal part of the academic experience. Consulting with professors and peers can provide valuable guidance in navigating the changing academic landscape. Trusting oneself and embracing change can create opportunities for lifelong satisfaction and success in chosen careers.
