Insane break at EBI Open Jiujitsu Competition i
One of my first good breaks in a jiujitsu competition. The crack was wild. Competition is not for the faint of heart. Disclaimer this girl was a super super sweet person. These comps just get a little intense sometimes &
Nasty break to the leg

I was
crazy proud with my performance that weekend.
Can't wait to get back out for the next one.
My recent EBI Open Jiu-Jitsu competition was truly an unforgettable experience, as I shared in my main post. It was intense, raw, and yes, it came with a wild knee pop and a nasty break! But honestly, that’s part of the journey when you push your limits in martial arts. It's not for the faint of heart, but the growth you achieve is incredible. If you’re reading this, you might be curious about getting into jiujitsu or looking for a martial arts school yourself, maybe even specifically a takedown jiu-jitsu club in the Bartlesville area. I totally get it! After experiences like mine, you start to truly appreciate the value of solid training and a supportive environment. When I first started, I wish I had known more about what to look for. Here’s my advice for anyone considering joining a martial arts school. First, don't be afraid to try a few places. Most good schools offer trial classes, which is perfect for getting a feel for the coaches and the overall vibe. Look for a place that emphasizes fundamentals and safety. While competition can be intense and injuries like an unexpected eye poke or a joint submission leading to a potential 'break' can happen, a good instructor will always prioritize proper technique and controlled sparring to minimize risks. For those interested in takedowns, specifically, make sure the club has dedicated instruction and drilling for stand-up grappling. Some schools focus heavily on ground game, which is great, but if you want to handle business from the start of a match, a strong takedown foundation is key. Don't be shy to ask about their curriculum! Beyond the physical benefits like improved strength, conditioning, and self-defense skills, jiujitsu offers so much more. It builds incredible mental resilience. When you’re in a tough spot, maybe even facing a submission that feels like your limb might 'break', you learn to stay calm, strategize, and push through. That's a lesson that translates far beyond the mats. The community aspect is also huge. Even after an intense match or a surprising injury, the camaraderie among practitioners is something special. My opponent, despite the fierce competition, was such a sweet person, which always reminds me of the respect inherent in our sport. So, if you’re in Bartlesville or anywhere else, and you're thinking about diving into the world of jiujitsu, I highly encourage it. It's a journey of self-discovery, discipline, and pushing boundaries. You’ll learn to embrace challenges, celebrate small victories, and yes, even bounce back from the occasional knee pops or rough spells. It makes you feel incredibly proud of your performance, on and off the mat. I certainly can't wait to get back out for the next one!
