"Summer" runs the same pace. Why does the Heart Rate gush through the zone!?

Many people have been out at speed practice or running in general, but they look at the clock and are shocked. "Hey! Run the same Pace, why are you so tired, and the Heart Rate (HR) bounced from Zone 2 to Zone 3, 4?"

Why does hot air cause a higher heart rate?

The main ones come from these three reasons:

1. The body draws blood to "cooling" (Thermoregulation): When the weather is hot, the temperature in the body rises rapidly, so the body has to try to cool off as quickly as possible by pumping more blood into the "skin" (notice that the front summer run is very red). As a result, the blood that should feed the "leg muscles" for use in running back decreases. The body has to order the heart to work harder to deliver enough blood in both ways.

2. Blood thickening and viscosity from dehydration: In the summer, we sweat a lot more than usual. When losing water, the volume of fluid in the blood decreases, causing the blood to become more viscous, so the heart has to exert more force to pump this viscous blood into the body.

3. Cardiac Drift: From verses 1 and 2 combined, when the volume of blood pumped per beat (Stroke Volume) decreases, but the muscles still need the same oxygen (because we are forced to run at the same speed), the heart has no choice but to "beat faster and more often" to compensate for the lost blood supply.

How to cope with running in the summer

To make running rehearsals also effective and safe, we recommend trying to deploy these methods:

- Run by Effort / HR instead of sticking to Pace: Summer, throw away the ego about Pace. Aim for HR Zone or RPE instead. If you normally run Zone 2 at Pace 6: 30, then summer HR penetrates, reduce the speed to Pace 7: 00 or 7: 30 to control the heart zone as well.

- Add water and mineral salt to: Do not wait to be hungry. Sip water every 15-20 minutes during the run. If you run for more than an hour, the mineral salt (Electrolytes) should be added to replace sodium wasted with sweat.

- Adjust running time: Avoid direct sunlight, switch to early morning before sunny, or run during the evening when the temperature has dropped.

- Heat Acclimatization: It takes about 1-2 weeks for the body to acclimatize to hot weather, gradually increasing the amount of time and intensity of rehearsals. Do not overdo it from the very first day of full summer.

Summer runs may seem torturous, poor timing, and some paces, but believe me, training in this challenging weather will strengthen our cardiovascular systems. In the winter months, we will become more comfortable running the same paces.
