A Narcissist Will Never Do This for You 🔺

2025/7/30 Edited to

... Read moreIt's heartbreaking to realize that someone you care about, or even someone you're forced to interact with, might be a narcissist. I've been there, trying to understand, trying to make sense of their actions, and constantly feeling like I was hitting a brick wall. What I've learned through my own struggles and countless hours of research is that there are fundamental things a narcissist will never do for you. They simply aren't wired that way, and understanding this is the first step toward protecting your peace. One of the hardest lessons for me was realizing they will never truly care about your feelings. Their world revolves around their own needs and desires, and anything that doesn't serve them directly is irrelevant. This is why you'll often find them dismissive of your pain, your joys, or anything that requires genuine empathy. They might feign concern if it benefits their image or agenda, but it's rarely, if ever, authentic. Similarly, expecting a genuine apology from a narcissist is like waiting for rain in a desert. They will never be truly sorry in the way you need them to be. For them, admitting fault means relinquishing control, shattering their perfect self-image, and facing a vulnerability they cannot tolerate. Any 'apology' will likely be a manipulation tactic – an 'I'm sorry if you feel that way,' or an attempt to shift blame back onto you. This goes hand-in-hand with them never appreciating you for who you are, only for what you can do for them. Your contributions are never enough, and your worth is constantly tied to how well you serve their narrative. So, knowing these tough truths, what should you not do when dealing with a narcissist? Don't Expect Empathy or a Genuine Apology: As I mentioned, it's a fruitless endeavor. You'll exhaust yourself trying to get them to understand your perspective or take responsibility. Accept that they are incapable of this, and don't waste your energy. Don't Try to Reason with Them: Narcissists operate on a different logic. Facts, evidence, and rational arguments usually won't sway them. They distort reality to fit their narrative, and trying to correct them often leads to circular arguments that leave you feeling frustrated and invalidated. Don't Reveal Your Deepest Vulnerabilities: While it's natural to want to share with those you trust, a narcissist views vulnerabilities as weaknesses to exploit. They can use your fears, insecurities, and past traumas against you to maintain control or gain an advantage. Don't Get Drawn into Power Struggles: Narcissists thrive on conflict and control. Engaging in arguments or trying to 'win' against them often fuels their need for drama and attention. Sometimes, the best response is no response at all, or a calm, detached one. Don't Sacrifice Your Boundaries: They will constantly test and push your limits. It's crucial to establish clear boundaries and enforce them consistently, even if it feels uncomfortable. Your boundaries protect your mental and emotional well-being. Don't Seek Their Validation or Approval: If your self-worth is tied to a narcissist's opinion, you're on a slippery slope. They rarely give genuine praise and often use criticism to keep you dependent. Find your validation from within and from healthy relationships. Don't Isolate Yourself: Narcissists often try to cut you off from your support system. Maintain connections with friends, family, or support groups who can offer objective perspectives and emotional solace. Recognizing these 'things a narcissist will never do for you' and understanding 'what not to do with a narcissist' was a game-changer for me. It empowered me to stop feeling confused and start protecting my own peace. You deserve to be treated with respect and genuine care, and sometimes that means learning to navigate these challenging relationships with strength and self-awareness.

A text post titled 'People Don't Realize How Delusional Narcissists Really Are' explains that narcissists interpret being taken back as validation for their bad behavior, leading to worsening relationship dynamics. It highlights their delusional reality, authored by Maria Consiglio.
To a Narcissist if you came back, it made it ok.
In their mind, it wasn’t that bad or you wouldn’t have came back. It validated their greatness. The more you allow, the more they will do. You are conditioned to this from early on. They slowly work their way up to more abuse… If they are allowed to do it once, they will do it again.
