MELBOURNE’S BEST GREEK FOOD - STALACTITES

Did you know, that Melbourne is the 3rd largest Greek community in the world after Greece and Cyprus? ✨🔥

Our local tour guide recommended us this restaurant to try the best Greek food and hence I would like to share this recommendation with you!

📍: STALACTITES | Stalactites Restaurant

We ordered:

1. Mixed Giros Souvlaki platter : Mixture of pork and lamb. Wanted to try both meats and not just the usual pork option I would have gone for. I am not a lamb person due the gamey smell but this was done really well.

Also- the pork meat was extremely lean and not fatty at all. I loved the roast!

2. Get the HOMEMADE DIP Tzatziki : homemade yoghurt with sliced cucumbers to go with. This will pair well with your meat platter giving a nice refreshing taste!

3. COFFEE / TEA - Greek coffee and Hot chocolate is highly recommended✨

4. DESSERT - they are famous for their Baklava. Unfortunately we were so stuffed we didn’t manage to try it. But reviews mentioned these were very fresh and homemade so what a pity! If you do go, would suggest to save your stomach for it :)

Overall - this was a SPLENDID recommendation from our tour guide and not a taste I could find back home. 🔥✨

... Read moreMelbourne's reputation as home to the third-largest Greek community in the world makes it an exceptional destination for authentic Greek cuisine lovers. When you visit Stalactites, you're not just enjoying a meal; you're experiencing a culinary tradition handed down through generations. During my visit, the attention to quality and authenticity at Stalactites stood out. The mixed Giros Souvlaki platter, combining pork and lamb, impressed me — especially since the lamb was prepared to reduce the usual gamey flavor, making it approachable for non-lamb eaters like myself. The pork was remarkably lean and perfectly roasted, demonstrating the kitchen’s dedication to using high-quality meat. What truly elevated the meal was the homemade tzatziki dip, featuring fresh yoghurt and sliced cucumbers that balanced the richness of the meat with a cool, refreshing taste. For drinks, trying the traditional Greek coffee enhanced the experience, offering a strong, aromatic finish typical of Greek hospitality. Although I could not sample the baklava due to being full, its glowing reviews for being fresh and homemade convinced me that saving room for this dessert is worthwhile on your visit. The baklava from Stalactites has a reputation for delicate layers and authentic sweetness that exemplifies classic Greek pastry craftsmanship. Beyond the food, Stalactites embodies a warm, welcoming atmosphere reflective of Melbourne's Greek culture. Whether you are a local or a visitor, this restaurant offers more than just a meal - it’s a connecting point to Greek heritage and flavors right in the heart of Melbourne. If you’re exploring Melbourne food scenes or planning an itinerary around Greek cuisine, Stalactites should be at the top of your list. It’s a splendid recommendation that delivers genuine Greek tastes you won’t easily find elsewhere.

Possibly Melbourne's best pasta spot?!
Every city has that one meal that makes you want to extend your trip. Mine was at ALT Pasta Bar — squid ink spaghetti with spanner crab (that was served with its massive shell), wagyu tartare I'm still thinking about, kingfish so fresh it didn't feel real, and octopus with gochujang that
