Becoming a parent to more than one child is a truly transformative experience that brings both challenges and immense joy. From my personal journey, I've learned that preparing emotionally and practically for a new baby is essential. With our little girl Camilla already 3 years old, seeing her grow so quickly reminds me how fleeting these early years are. Having a big sister in the home changes the family dynamics and provides a chance for beautiful bonding moments. It’s so rewarding to watch a child step into the role of a caring older sibling, and I’m optimistic Camilla will be a wonderful helper. One thing I found especially helpful is starting to involve the older sibling in baby preparations—letting them help choose baby clothes or toys, and talking openly about the new family member. This helps create excitement and understanding rather than confusion or jealousy. Another important aspect is self-care for the parents. With another little one arriving soon, it’s crucial to find time for rest and seeking support from loved ones. Sharing responsibilities and maintaining open communication with your partner eases the transition. Reflecting on how quickly time passes, I cherish these moments and the anticipation of growing our family. Embracing all the emotions—from nostalgia to excitement—is part of this unique experience. I encourage other parents expecting their second child to embrace these feelings and prepare gradually. The phrase “When they tell you time flies by...” truly resonates as every milestone and memory with children is precious. While preparing for a newborn may feel overwhelming, it’s also a special chapter filled with love and growth.
